Clutch Break in

Have a 2008 CTS now for about 600 miles and the clutch grabs as soon as you come off the floor... which in my experience seems normal with the "high" spots on the clutch needing to wear down and then over time the clutch doesnt grab as quickly.. this is how the clutch on my 2006 colorado behaved... anyway the question is for you guys with more experience than I with the CTS.. did the clutch on your CTS follow the pattern I described above or does it continue to grab, in my opinion anyway, early as a result perhaps of some kind of self adjusting feature...

Re: Clutch Break in

I'm not sure how much of the clutch "broke in", or how much I "broke in". It was probably a combinaton of both. Twice in the last week we got in the car in a restaurant parking lot and I killed it in reverse backing out. Embarrassing! Can't hear the engine especially with the cooling fan running on high from sitting in a hot parking lot. I could be wrong, but the clutch pedal doesn't have a real distinct "feel", but for getting her down the road in a quick fashion, I have found that it is very smooth.

Re: Clutch Break in

I don't think mine broke in much. It still seems like the initial friction point is right next to the floor. Like doncrystalred, I may have adjusted to the car and don't really know.

However, one part of it that definitely did break in is the smell. When you first get the car, it's easy to burn the clutch (rev a little to about 2500 and keep it there the whole time you're letting the clutch out). The smell eventually went away at about 3000 mi, and now I almost never get the smell (only when in reverse and i'm doing a very poor job of managing the clutch engagement).
