Thumbs up K&N Air Filter

Remove this ad
Hi I've been lurking for a while and haven't posted anything yet.

I have a Crystal Red 2008 CTS (DI) that I bought in January 08. I am really enjoying it so far.

I just noticed that K&N has an air filter for the 2008 CTS now (I've been checking regularly since I got the car and I just noticed the filter listed today). I haven't seen this posted yet, but if it is a repost then I apologize.

Part #33-2411. I am ordering it direct from the K&N website. They are currently in stock.

I know people's opinions differ regarding any possible performance increase from these filters. I've put K&N air filters in all of my cars since 1997 (5 total) and have always been pleased with them. Not sure if I noticed any performance gains, but at least I never had to buy another air filter.

Anyway, I'll post a write-up after I get it and install it.

Re: K&N Air Filter

Sounds good thanks for sharing.
Welcome!!!! to the forum.

I just went to the K&N site and the filter was over $50 bucks seems a tad steep.
Let us know how it goes.

Re: K&N Air Filter

I'm not crazy about putting filters in the car that have oil. For one, they don't catch as much dirt as the original ones, they clog up relatively quickly and if too much oil is put on the filter then you can cause engine damage. Most of this is somewhat extreme, but for me a regular air filter does a good job so why mess with it.

Re: K&N Air Filter

I had K&N filter for 20k miles on my previous car. I did not like it. Too much mess and nothing to gain.
Since then I always use paper filters. They ofer better filtration and are easy to change.

Just my 2c............

Re: K&N Air Filter

Oiled filters can void your warranty. K&N's million mile warranty does not cover engine damage related to the oiled filter. Typically solid horsepower gains, though.

I have heard that before, but I've also heard the opposite... True, K&N's million mile warranty applies only to the air filter. But they also state that they will pay for any vehicle repairs that the dealer says were caused by a properly installed and maintained K&N filter (http://www.knfilters.com/MAF/massairpledge.htm).

Like I said, I've never had any issues with them. I believe if they are maintained properly (cleaned after 50,000 miles, not over-oiled) they work well. In my 2000 WS6 Trans Am I did notice a power gain after installation; in my other V-6 vehicles not so much.

Maybe I am rolling the dice, but my dad, brother, and several friends have been using K&N Air Fileters for years with no issues, so for me I believe this is a low risk. We'll see.

Re: K&N Air Filter

I've had them in vehicles before and had no problems. Used one in my Grand Prix GTP and had problems and the dealer threatened to void my warranty. I called K&N and they told me they would fight for me in court over it if they had to, and were adamant that GM CANNOT void warranties over the use of one of their filters.
