External Temperature Indicator Error

Remove this ad
The external temperature indicated on the radio display (no nav)
occasionaly stays locked at the garage temperature.
Doesn't change after 10 minutes of driving in 10 - 25 degree warmer temperature.
Never in error when I happen to be at the dealer.
Is the info source for this indicater the same as the one for the
motor (gas to air) computer? Anybody else have this problem?
7K miles, non DI. Near sea level operation.

Re: External Temperature Indicator Error

No, there is a sensor located next to the hood hinge that your dealer should change just for the heck of it. Just to see if the problems goes away. There are two wires going to it, it is kind of weird looking.

Re: External Temperature Indicator Error

DualCam - thanks for the reply.
Looked all around the hinges and couldn't find
the sensor. All the wiring harnesses were below, closer to
the engine, and didn't have any wires leaving to go toward
the 2 hinge areas. Also looked at the cabin fresh air intake
area but didn't find anything there either.

Re: External Temperature Indicator Error

I have had the same problem several times on real hot days. It was in the 90's and the car stayed in the low 80"s. I did not take it to the dealer since it has not done if for the last week.

Re: External Temperature Indicator Error

I have had my 2008 CTS for 90 days and I don't remember the ext. temp being off in the beginning, but it is now. A call to the service dept. didn't help, they said make a few turns and it will correct itself. (??) They thought that the sensor would then update itself. Well it hasn't. I hate to have them start tearing everything apart just for that, but I find that I do rely on the temp. indicator. I have had 5 Infinitis and they all worked perfectly.

There are no TSB's for this problem either. One thing about the whole situation is that the computer went out for about an hour a month ago, no radio diplay, no nav...nothing. Then it just came back about 2 hours later, but then afterwards it seems as though the temp. display problem started. Also, it seems like the radio dsplay will show a song and artist for 4,5 or 6 songs after the song has ended, it doesn't update to the artist that is playing. That too seems to be just recent...just since the computer took a dump.

I would like to know if anyone has had the problem and found a solution?

I will take it to the dealership for a new sensor, but every once and a while it might get close to accurate. Yesterday it stayed at 72 degrees for hours, and then gained 15 degrees in a matter of 5 minutes.
