Navigation Screen not "Auto" Dimming

1) Yes it is set to auto and the clock is right

Does this operate off the clock or daylight sensor?

Wondering if it is a software or hardware issue?

Re: Navigation Screen not "Auto" Dimming

There is a thread about bugs in the nav, including some day/night issues. Mine will change by itself and go from one state to the other.
The thread talks about a TSB.
Wait...I have it here........well it is not listed on my paper work. It is simply called the upgrade disc.
My dealer had to order it.
It should be in soon.
Search for a thread with "NAV Lotsa Bugs"

Re: Navigation Screen not "Auto" Dimming

New Nav disc comes out in August, the Nav disc people said I should get a postcard for the map upgrade.

I guess that would be a good time to get the F/W updated

Re: Navigation Screen not "Auto" Dimming

Are the upgrade disks free? I never got one for my Mercedes because they wanted a couple hundred bucks.

Clock has nothing to do with it. You set it to auto and it dims when the HEADLIGHTS turn on. If you're lights are not on, the screen will not dim.

Re: Navigation Screen not "Auto" Dimming

The upgrade disc I am talking about is a TSB. It has nothing to do with upgrading the database. It has everything to do with bug fixing.
It is available now.

What if the headlights come on automatically? It still doesn't dim the nav screen.

Re: Navigation Screen not "Auto" Dimming

I thought something was wrong with my autodimming feature for awhile. I'd back the car out of the garage and have to make the screen brighter so I could see it. Then one day, I didn't and gave it another ten seconds or so after the headlights turned off from being on in the garage. No more problem. Just give it 20 seconds or so after your outside ambient lighting has stabilized for it to make the adjustment.

Re: Navigation Screen not "Auto" Dimming

Nav screen illumination is connected to the IP lights. if nav is on auto dim it dims whenever the IP lights dim (based on the ambient light sensor). when the nav screen is dimmed, the brightness is controlled by the IP dimmer. if it's too low just turn up the IP knob. there is also a button to the right under the analog clock that cycles thru three settings. this can also be used to immediately set to bright if lights are dimmed, or vice versa.
