Orange dots on windshield

Hey guys, I don't know if this has been covered before but after a quick search I couldn't find anything. I was wondering what the little orange dots at the bottom of the windshield are?

Re: Orange dots on windshield

the only speculation I have seen is these are targets for manufacturing - properly locate the glass during installation.

Re: Orange dots on windshield

I'd have to look at it, but chances are they're the dots to signify where the wipers should be at when at rest....there should be more dots on the top of the windshield...those dots signify tint or whatever can't go below them.

Re: Orange dots on windshield

They are right under the wiper blades?

Don't think they are the rain sensor

Re: Orange dots on windshield

there are four of them spaced across the lower edge of the windshield, about 2-3" up. I see no relation to the wiper blades.
in printed circuit board manufacturing similar patterns are called fiducials and they are used for pattern recognition equipment optical alignment.
btw the ones on my car are gray (the open areas where the material under the glass shows thru). similar to the color of the interior trim.

Re: Orange dots on windshield

The dots are for wiper alignment, many vehicles have them now a days. GMT800 trucks one of the first, trucks used a little black line.

The tint line (AS1) is actually marked by a line and the label AS1 on the passenger side of the windshield. This is located about 8½ inches from the top edge of the glass.

Re: Orange dots on windshield

The wiper blades on my '06 STS were pounding on the windshield molding. Checking in the FSM the STS has orange dots and lines for wiper blade alignment. Both arms were on wrong. The drivers arm was one notch too high and the passenger side arm was one notch too low. It's five minute job to set them right if you have a small gear puller.
