The day has finally arrived and I will be picking up my black on black CTS tomorrow from Country Cadillac in Huntington, New York. First off I would like to thank everyone the extremely useful information posted on this forum, spent many hours at work reading and reading
Now - when I arrange the delivery time tomorrow with the dealer should I tell them not to prep the car? I don't want swirls! No washing just removal of the shipping materials? Need some guidance here.
Ahh a day off from work to pick up a cadillac, what better way to kick off the weekend! |

It depends on how fanatical you're going to be about the paint finish. Myself, I live in Michigan, and the only way my cars get washed in the winter is to go thru a drive-thru car wash, so the dealer prep is finw with me. I'm also not going to be spending a lot of time polishing and waxing my CTS even in the summer - it's just not how I want to spend my spare time. It's the same way I treated my last sports car 2 years ago - I liked to keep it clean but I don't obsess over the finish. Each to his own. |

Dealerships are completely incompetent when it comes to finish care. It drives me nuts. |

no front plate either. no dealer stickers.
then check the fluids and tire pressures yourself when you get home |

It's going to cost you either time or money to deal with what the dealer can do to the paint.....and has done to many people's cars on this very board |

Take a look at the black cars on the lot (Escalades, etc.). My dealer seems to know how to prep a car, so I was happy to have 'em deliver mine all sparkly and new. |

The vast majority of dealerships have horrible detail shops, especially when it comes to washing and drying techniques. They all use products that hide/mask defects temporarily. A few weeks later after a few car washes or a few rainy weather days, you'll see the light scratches and swirls show up and scratch your head wondering where they came from. I'd play it safe and tell them to leave the exterior alone, but it's your call. |

I'd say if your fanatical..Tell them not to prep the body...and NOT to install the front plate holder.
Do a search here for some interesting alternative setups.
I mounted it lower as suggested on this site and it looks very sharp...

Last thing ones needs on tires is a friction reducer. |

Request No Dealer Prep? JBsZ06...did you save any picture for the alt. mounting of the front plate? I told the dealer not to mount mine as I didn't want to break up the nice line of the car. But curious what others have done? |

Request No Dealer Prep? I am planning on letting the dealer do their standard prep on the car. Iw ill scrutinize the details, but I don't want any excuses when it comes time for warranty work. They are slicksters, I tell ya! |
