Has anyone looked at the new Chevy Traverse rear view mirror with a backup camera? I wonder if the CTS OnStar Mirror could be replaced with the Traverse OnStar Mirror with the Backup video? One advantage of this approach would be not having to raise the screen to see the rear view. |

This is also very interesting option.... All buttons are same.. + Video in.. i guess. |

Model # Genk356 Price $399+
This system will work on any used or new General Motors vehicle equipped with On-Star controls on the rear-view mirror.
Auto-dimming technology built into mirror. Integrated 3.5" display for RCD (rear camera display) use. OnStar model so as long as your vehicle has OnStar but without any airbag indicator, this mirror monitor will work.

i have contacted the shop concerning the system which Nick alreade has ordered. They write me the following answer: Dear Sir,
Thank you for taking interest in our products.
According to your request:
- There is not manual for 2008 Cadillac CTS yet but we will contact the manufacturer to obtain all the necessary technical information
- Display aux directly over the touch screen is not possible, but there is a button in the set which can be used for this feature or this feature could be bound to any factory button of the car.
Car Video Interface for Land Rover/Lexus ver.3 is ultimate release of the Video Interface. Nevertheless we've tested it on following Lexus ES300,RX400,Gs350,GX470 and found some problem with synchronization of RGB signal (see attached picture)
We were using following navigations during the test:
1)navigation LM7200
2)navigation HT9200
3)navigation kenwood KNA-G421
We got same bug with RGB signal with each of aboved navigations.
Since there was no such bug in the previous version of the interface thus we've contacted manufacturer in order to find out the nature of this bug. The request is in process of finding out of solution right now.
Also, during next two weeks we plan to stock in our Hong Kong store Cadillac CTS Video Interface 2008 which is actually made by other manufacturer.
Short description of the product:
NTSC / PAL
INPUT-RGB1,AV1,AV2
AV2 - Rear view camera input
RGB-navigation input
OUT PUT - AV OUT
PDC Screen available
Remote control
Plug and Play(disassemble monitor )
More precise information about this product (pictures, installation manual, prices ect.) we'll be able to provide you next week only.
They ask me for the exact Navigation System Type which is used in the 08 CTS. Can someone in this forum answer this question? I know that the System is from Alpine, but which type?

| I'm not sure I understand the question. This system was developed by alpine specifically for the CTS. I'm not sure there is a type other than the Alpine Nav System for '08 CTS.
I could be wrong.. |

GVIF is a Sony developed digital video interface for which interface boxes are very expensive.
So if you want a back up camera, $450+ is what you'll probably have to pay as there are very few manufactures of these devices. This is not to say you couldn't make your own but this would be a rather large under taking and probably cost you a lot of time and effort.
There are a few companies that make GVIF converters for other vehicles, but be careful as not all GVIF converters work the same. GVIF is a digital network that has a baud rate that is dependant on the amount of pixels that need to be displayed at the refresh rate of the screen. So each manufacture may have a different baud rate. Because of this, the baud rate will most likely vary from one vehicle with GVIF to another. |

Also, keep in mind, as per my Alpine rep, Alpine OEM and Alpine aftermarket are in direct competition with each other and DO NOT share technologies or secrets. They should "not even be considered the same manufacturer" were is exact words. I believe him, too, because the infotainment system in mt CTS is head and shoulders above the absolute best "Alpine" offers in the aftermarket.
Heed my words, if it is very important to you, send your HU to tvandnav2go.com, or bring it there if you are in the NY metro area. It takes about three hours for them to do their work. Go to Manhattan and get a Gray's hot dog, and by the time you are done, they will also be. $450? | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
