Rattle when the fan runs?

Remove this ad
Something else I need to have checked. When I run the fan I can hear a rattle sound as the fan speed increases. Kind of annoying. (No, I don't live in the southwest)
It was in the shop when I first got at which time the radio needed repair. I'm wondering if when the dash was pulled apart and reassembled something wasn't set firmly enough.
Add it to my list I guess.

Re: Rattle when the fan runs?

I had same problem. When I increase fan speed I could hear (leaf blowing) noises. When my climate control is on Auto mode I could not hear that. Actually, I asked this noise when I had loud DI noise to Tech person but he told me that is normal sound on all GM car and nothing he can do (What???).
However, the noise is almost gone now and only sometimes I can hear very little. My car was in the shop one time, I don't know if they do something about that.. My DI noise is also much quiter now.. I think... or I am getting use to.l..them.

Got the same issue. Its much worse after the car sits in the sun and interior gets hot. I am going to try to get it in later this week.

Re: Rattle when the fan runs?

A rattle sound as the fan speed increases still exists.

Re: Rattle when the fan runs?

Take a look and verify that your dash vents are all open. I noticed that the fan seemed pretty noisy last week, and a couple of the vents were about 90% closed. Once I opened them, the noise quieted down considerably.

Re: Rattle when the fan runs?

It's either a rattle or something is in the vent. It sounds like my kid is holding a paper front of the fan.

Re: Rattle when the fan runs?

Hi guys,
If I am not mistaken, in another thread, someone found a solution to this.
I seem to recall that a GM dealer had a fix for this? He glued or shaved something off.
I can't find that thread.
I noticed my center vent (driver's side) sounds like there is a loose piece of plastic or leaf in there.
I am going to bring the car in next week, and would like to point the dealer in the right direction.
Any advice is welcome!
Thanks!

Bingo!

My '08 CTS' HVAC fan(?) noise occurs intermittently exactly as you've described. But after 18 months, including 45 days in the shop for various repairs, I've just about given up hope that my dealer will ever "hear" the noise and actually fix it. Guess I'll have to demand a remedy shortly before the warranty expires, if I still own the car.

Re: Rattle when the fan runs?

I have the same problem, but there is no way I'm letting the dealer pull the dash apart to find it. Who knows what noises I might have after that.

Re: Rattle when the fan runs?

I had visited my dealer 2~3 times for this issue last year.
Last time, when they check my CTS I think they pull apart and check the blow motor and all parts related to the vent, but they could not find/fix it. And, they showed me other CTS making same noise...... I gave up.

But, now I am thinking, maybe, the noise is coming from the behind of speed/rpm meter panel.
because everytime, (Only) when I start the engine I hear some noise... rapid ticking noise.....
