My issue is as I approach the car with the fob in my pocket carrying me sleeping 2 year old - I go to open the back door and no go. Still locked. I have to open the front door and then I can open a back door.
Is there anyway to program this thing to open ANY door when approaching with the fob. Why the heck does it make me open the front door first?
I have read the manual on this section around five times - so either I'm dense or what I what to happen is impossible with this car.
Thanks. |

The car doesn't unlock anything while you're approaching -- it actually unlocks the front door as you pull on the handle and it verifies that the correct key is nearby.
If you're like me and you don't wanna dig in your pockets for the key fob or open the front door, you can pull on the front door handle just a little bit, and it'll unlock all doors without opening the front. I just put my thumb near the front door handle for leverage and pull it out a half-inch using one finger -- it's easy to do, even if you have your hands full of groceries or kids or whatever. After you do it a few times, it's second nature and you won't find yourself pulling too far and unlatching the front door (e.g. when it's raining and you don't want the front open yet). |

understood it the first time...
i've carried my 5 year old when she was sleeping and didn't find it to be a pain to double-click a fob....my leather jacket is heavier...no worries though. |

So - does the slight delay when you pull the front door handle annoy anyone else? It does me. I have a Corvette with a keyless system that works almost identically. But it does not have a door handle - just an electronic "button" that you pull on from behind the door (hard to explain - there is an opening right behind the door itself that allows you to wrap your fingers behind the door and press the button - kind of like a membrane switch). It works a lot better than the CTS. |

IIRC, the Lexus GS had a button on the outside of the door handle -- IMHO, that'd be even worse. |

Then once the network is awake (only 200 ms or so to do this) it must then wake up the corresponding virtual network for the RFA... (about another 100 ~ 200 ms).. once this is done the RFA can negotiate with the remote key. Of course you have to wake up the remote key (another delay). Then the key must respond and there are a couple of messages that take care of this hand shaking, then the RFA send the driver door module the unlock command and the door must unlock.
So given the amount of communications that must occur, there is little that can be done about delays in the system. |

On the Lexus and other cars, the switch you are talking about unlocks the doors, then you pull the handle to open the door. On the Corvette, the membrane switch actually opens the door. Your fingers are wrapped behind the opening so you are pushing the membrane switch and pulling the door open in one motion. There is not a noticable lag like when you pull the handle on the CTS. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
