Re: How often r u changing the oil in DI?

I have placed almost 3000 miles on the DI CTS in teh last 5 weeks. Due to some previous posts I just checked my oil levels. There were just fine. I'm going to keep an eye on the oil levels and will probably take it in for its first change when they need to be topped off. Also, did everyone else recieve the first scheduled maintence, including oil change, compliments of Cadillac. I thought it was a very nice touch. Thanks Cadillac!

The dealer who sold me the car sent me a postcard that indicated the first scheduled oil change was free, but he's too far away from me to make that worth my while.

Re: How often r u changing the oil in DI?

Got a fancy mailer from Cadillac with a card in there giving me my first Oil Change for free. Also a Free Card for my 1000 mile re-training on my vehicle where as I can go back to my Dealer if I have any questions on how to things work, and they will show me... Thought that was pretty funny.

Re: How often r u changing the oil in DI?

I got a Mr Goodwrench offer from my dealer for the "New-Owner Service Welcome" Lube, Oil & Filter for $37.95

And then at the bottom it said
*Synthetic oil Priced Higher.

Now isn't that special............

I get all of my scheduled maintenance, including oil change, compliments of Cadillac.

I'm really surprised they offer that here in Canada and not in the US.

That's fine - just don't let them change our Coca Cola recipe. We still use sugar here, instead of the HFCS used down there - ours tastes way better

Re: How often r u changing the oil in DI?

I asked my salesman, who is a good friend, could I get free oil changes(Mobil 1). He said, "You want free changes, they just price them into the deal". I said no, just give me the best price.

Re: How often r u changing the oil in DI?

Hi all, my service rep today just told me that I should be changing the oil every 5-6k mi. Is that true? I told him that my DIC said 40% life left and he said "that just explains the oil's viscosity but doesn't tell u the amount of oil left in the car...you could be running on no oil before u know it" Is that true too? The DIC just tells oil life but doesn't tell you if you've burned out all your oil??? Please help because I feel like I just had a premature oil change done on my DI (8k mi) and they will probably charge me a good $100 for it (even though the car went in for warranty repair on an engine light...2nd one in a week).

Re: How often r u changing the oil in DI?

every 3000 miles or 3 months. Synthetic oil can last a year, but filters cannot. 3k or 3 months. thats the rule. who does anything different?

Wouldn't that mean you should ADD oil, not CHANGE the oil? I've gone by the oil life system on my Silverado and my Cobalt, and I'll continue to do so on my CTS.

Also, I don't think it has anything to do with viscosity - it can't really tell anything about your actual oil. What it does is measures your driving habits, and guesstimates how the oil is holding up.

GM developed the system for a reason, and they suggest you rely on it in the owner's manual. Your service manager is just trying to make a quick buck, it seems, or he has no clue. I'll leave it for you to decide which of those situations is worse
