| | Cadillac Owners Member Cadillac(s): Cadillac | | | | | Not Happy With GM Quality I have to admit I'm shocked at all of the problems people are having with their new CTS's I guess I'm no exception. I haven't owned an american car since 1987 when I had a GTA and it was a great car. Since 1993 I've owned foreign cars from Lexus to Mercedes and just came off a lease on a M35, I've owned these cars because I felt American cars just couldn't compare in terms of quality and I guess that stilll holds true. I really fell in love with the CTS after reviewing the car and it's supposed to be the best Cadillac in 50 years I decided to take a chance on an American car. The foreign cars I've owned have had very few rattles and vibrations and interior noises if any and thats one of the main reasons I purchased foreign cars and never had any of my cars in the shop for any reason other than an oil change. Since owning my loaded CTS w/DI and F2 AWD I've had it in the dealer four time for noises in the rear end, my drivers seat came apart in the back, my drivers door wouldn't unlock and I had to enter from the back door, and rattling noises from my sunroof. I want to love this car but I just can't see myself buying another American car. |

So don't let the fact that there are issues make you think that all owners are having problems. I'm sure the Infinity forums have people with issues also.
I'm very sensitive to noises and rattles and am now on my third Cadillac in a row. I do not have a new CTS yet as I am waiting on the CTS-V but can say that my current V is very quiet and has been a good car other that having the same weak points that others have dealt with. We also have had a '06 STS 4 which was flawless. That car was just replaced with a XLR this week. I have found that the dealer experience has been very good so far. In fact, when it came to doing the deal on the XLR, I dropped by in my V and they simply said take the XLR home for the night. If we liked it they would bring me my V and take away the STS. We signed the papers right in my kitchen and away the old car went.
GM has also been real good to me. I smashed up the STS when it was new and the car sat waiting on parts at the dealer for about three weeks. I called Cadillac customer service and they called the parts supplier, had the part directly shipped to the dealer, paid for my rental Cadillac and even paid one month of my lease payment. I received regular updates from the very same person I dealt with at customer service and she followed the whole process until the vehicle was fixed properly.

My two worst cars quality wise were also the least complicated (the Kadett and a Ford Maverick). My new 08 CTS has been the best new car "out of the box" I've ever owned. |

American car companies are trying to win back customers who left them (like myself - I have a M45 lease ending). This guys goes out and DOES buy American - an nice new CTS that GM is telling us is the car to come back to. He buys the car, has multiple problems with it practically as soon as he gets it, and you say "some people are born to complain".
Yeah, people are "dyinggg" to get into the car, but if GM does not have their quality together, they will by "dyinggg" to go back to foreign cars again. And all you want to do is shoot the messenger. |

He should be able to get the minor issues he listed taken care of by a competent dealer and have many happy miles of motoring in his new CTS. Unless he just got a lemon (which ALL manufacturers make every now and then).
I just wanted to point out that my experiences have been vastly different with my Cadillacs and that the dealer and GM experience have been very good. Everything said here has to be taken within reason. Perception is what we are really taking about here. The original poster complained of noises, a broken seat and a door that did not work. All should be able to be fixed properly by a good dealer. They are inexcusable but these things happen. I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of new cars out there from MB or Infinity that start off with issues that once fixed prove to be good cars. If I were the owner of this particular CTS, I'd keep a positive attitude and focus on the things I like about the car, let the dealer fix the problems and go on with life. It is not like the car dropped a transmission and left him stranded.

Mark | Mark, I appreciate your well written response. I have been posting on the Corvette forum for almost seven years now, and have over 15,000 posts on that forum. When the new C6 came out in 2005, I had an early one. I'm used to reading many post from people complaining about problems. There were many posts about early problems with the new model. I think it's a valuable part of a forum to see those posts. If I see one or two, I don't worry too much. But if they become very common, a pattern of problems to look for becomes very valuable in both making a car buying decision, and knowing how to deal with the issue if it does happen to your car.
My only point is that people should not be criticized for posting negative experiences. |

I've owned many many cars and every one has had it's quirks. This is my first American car in 15 years, and to date it is the most "complete" car I've owned. After 7k miles so far it has very little problems.
Coming from a 2006 BMW to the Caddy I don't see much if anything differnent in the level of quality. The GM has new and more functional features than the BMW for sure, but both cars are put together very tight. I'm sure that issues will come up with my new GM car in the future, but as a whole it's been the most solid performing, solid features and least trouble of all the cars I've owned to date (both Nissan and Infiniti, Lexus, BMW and Acura).
However, having said that... I went and read your other post on this forum and do find it a bit hard to believe you actually own a Caddy. I find it much more likely that you're just trying to give the Caddy a bad name.
