Ticking with acceleration question?

Remove this ad
I have a slight ticking sound that sounds like it is coming from behind the speedometer. It is not very loud but sounds similar to a vibration. It only happens with acceleration. At first I thought it might be the speedometer cable but I think it is outside under the hood. Anyone got an idea of what it might be. I did not have it or I should say notice it until around 1000 miles. It is not a labor knock from poor gas though. It is constant and not a rattle like the labor knocks.

Re: Ticking with acceleration question?

Does it do it from about 1200-3000 RPM and is engine speed dependant? If so my car is going to the proving grounds on Tuesday to test a fix for that Do you know your cars build date perchance? If not shoot me a PM wiht your VIN I want to see how close it is to mine.

Re: Ticking with acceleration question?

Yeah sounds like you've got the same problem, I'll update you with the solution (and hopefully availabilty to dealers) on Tues/Weds of next week Mine is pretty loud, if I listen for it I can hear it over the radio on low volume and HVAC. Without the radio on my God is it annoying!

Re: Ticking with acceleration question?

I have the exact same issue. At first I thought it may have been the fan in the front defogger, but that was ruled out when I turned the cliate control system off.

I am going to wait a couple of more weeks before I take mine into the dealer to address the rattle in the rear seats, the power window on the passangers side that seems to not want to work every once in a while, the trim on the centre console on the drivers side that seems to be coming apart under the wood trim and this ticking sound. The reason I wanted to wait is to see if anything else comes up so I can get everything addressed all at once.

Thanks to this AWESOME forum I will be able to tell the service department exactly what is wrong with the car, and all they have to do is fix it.

Please keep us up to date on your findings from the dealer regarding this very annoying ticking sound.

Cheers

Re: Ticking with acceleration question?

I wonder if the sound you are hearing is from the DI system? Do you all have the DI engines?

Re: Ticking with acceleration question?

Not too sure about the build date. I picked mine up from the dealer December 14, 2007. My VIN ends with 80152230. I don't know if that helps. I'm not too sure how to look up the exact build date as I am in Canada.

It is a DI engine with AWD.

Re: Ticking with acceleration question?

Are you sure its not the ticking of the injectors from the DI. It makes a ticking sound when you give it gas thats why Cadillac sealed the engine compartment so well.

Re: Ticking with acceleration question?

No it's not the DI engine. That has an all together different sound which is a thing of beauty. In my search for where this sound is coming from I found out that even the clock on the centre stack makes at ticking sound. But then again I guess it should being analog and all.

Re: Ticking with acceleration question?

Technically the sound IS the engine but the way its getting into the cabin IS NOT intended. If you have this problem it sounds like its coming right from the Instrument panel or right behind it

Re: Ticking with acceleration question?

I had a similar sound. Took it into the dealer and it turned out that a rubber shield around the steering column at the firewall came loose. Once they repositioned and reseated it, all was quiet again. Have them check yours.

Re: Ticking with acceleration question?

Re: Ticking with acceleration question?

I also have similar sound. It is coming from under the dashboard between engines on driver side I think I can hear only when I accelerate. I went to the dealer and asked to check but they told me that it's from the DI system. I am not happy with that sound. It's like my clock is ticking every 1/20 sec continously. I think my car was build on Jan.

Re: Ticking with acceleration question?

I hear some occasional muted ticking, but I'm confident it's from the DI...keep us posted on your noise, and good luck
