| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic Cadillac(s): Cadillac | | | | | Ripping DVDs to Hard Drive: Bitrate Question I read somewhere -- and I am not certain how accurate this is --
that the onboard system will rip music off a CD to the hard drive
at a 128 bitrate.
I am more of a music purist than most, and when dealing with
storing music on my iPod or any HD I always opt for at least a
320 bitrate, or even lossless when possible.
So my question is, is there configuration where you can raise
the bitrate ripping level to your liking? |

...and just in case nobody realizes how awful music at a 128 bitrate is,
you'll certainly realize it in a vehicle with this type of sound system. It
will sound nothing near CD quality. |

Agree it would be convenient to have the option right in the car though...

When transferring to the hard drive, will the system
compress the music further, or, does the compression
only take place when ripping from a CD? |

Most folks here have the same resource as i and just don't know.
And if you want to see something pathetic, go to your dealer and ask the mechanics about bitrates, USbs, Nav issues, etc.
I'm afraid Caddy has provided technology they are ill equipped to support.
I would assume that if the HDD is set to record at 128, that it wouldn't matter what the original was recorded at.
I'm not saying it is set at 128, we just don't know and I just don't know how to find out. Very frustrating. |

I'd pay money for some kind of hack that increased the bit rate of direct rips. Not big money, but some money. |

One thing I've found through my working years is that very normal, reasonable and cool people do the things that we assume are mysterious or buried behind beuracracy. How hard can it be to track this person down? I just bet that if we knew who it was, they would LOVE to talk to us about it. Any ideas? GM insiders? Cadillac Tony? |
