on my way to take my nephew to my sisters house a strange chain of events conspired to lead to this...

so here's what happened...

it was wet and sloshy and right at 10 at night. one of the roads we have to take is soft sand so we turned stablitrak off to avoid bogging the car in it (the stabilitrak has got the car stuck B4 in this sand) and since it was only a 5 minute drive i wasn't wearing shoes and had wet feet. all of those little unusual details came together. so as we were getting ready to turn i noticed i had started to pass my turn, well since we werent going all that fast and it's not a 90 degree turn (and not remembering that stabilitrak had never been turned back on) i just jabbed the brakes and turned. well my foot slid off the brake pedal,i paniced and slammed on what i THOUGHT was the brakes. Turns out it was the gas. anyways we got up enough speed to slid sidways into a ditch bog down and flip over. me and my nephew had our seatbelts on and we both walked away without so much as even a scratch. and despite everything the car held up AMAZINGLY well, (we hit the side of the ditch with the roof and it didn't buckle very much at all) the sunroof didn't even bust. anyways i'll update you guys more later. but right now i'm gonna go to bed for a while.

Dang man, sorry to hear about that.

Glad the CTS performed well in keeping you and your Nephew from getting hurt.

Ohhhhh bummer, man. Very glad you and your nephew weren't hurt, tho!!

I hope you have good insurance and that we'll all be seeing you in a new CTS (maybe an 09???) again soon.

i'd argue HARD for a total. they'd have to cut the whole roof off at the pillars and weld a replacement back on....trusting your future safety to the body shop. cant see the arse but every body panel looks damaged, too. mine was 2K shy of a total.

Re: well this sucks

i'm hoping for a total but the guy at the body shop i talked to (he hasn't seen the car yet he was going bu my description) said that they can take the entire side panel off (from behind the front panel all the way to the rear quater panel) and replace it since only the drivers side roof rail deformed. and the rear of it is ok and all doors open and close just fine. in any case part of me hopes they total it and part of me would HATE getting rid of it lol if that makes any sense...

Re: well this sucks

i agree with both of you. and the thing is. i ALWAYS turn it back on after we leave that street. but not remembering is one of about 5 things that happened differantly that night that caused this mess.

Re: well this sucks

Did the car end back right side up on the wheels or stay on the roof ? (if the engine was left running upside down for any amount of time that could work toward a total)
