Low Fuel Indicator?

Remove this ad
Greetings to all ... ran the gas to nearly empty last week. Did not see an LED come on near the fuel gauge, nor a display in the driver information center indicating low fuel.

Did I miss something, or do our CTS not have an indicator? There is no mention in our driver's manual.

Would appreciate constructive assistance.

Thanks.

PS Another why no ... no audio alert similar to "Your attention, construction ahead." That is too cool!

Re: Low Fuel Indicator?

I have experienced a "bong" and with an accompanying message in the driver info section, "fuel level low."

Re: Low Fuel Indicator?

Does it only do that after you have "experienced a bong"?

Talking Re: Low Fuel Indicator?

I've got the bong, low fuel level indicator, along with the navigation screen telling me I have low fuel and if I would like to display the nearest gas stations.

Yes thanks also my experience. Prior to that you get low range on the DIC readout rather than the number of miles left. I'm guestimating when there is less than 50 miles left on your tank.

Re: Low Fuel Indicator?

Page 3-49 in the manual - "Once the range drops below 30 miles (48 km) remaining, the display shows Low Range." - This is for the Fuel Range display in the DIC.

3-60 - "Fuel Level Low - This message displays when your vehicle is low on fuel. Refill the tank as soon as possible. A chime may sound when this message displays."

MAY sound? that's not very helpful. I know a lot of time's I've not noticed the chime on my Cobalt, though I'm always lucky enough to catch it on the DIC somehow.

Thanks for finding that ... interesting that it did not qualify for a listing in the manual index.

I saw the "Low Range" warning on the DIC ... only after I cycled through all of the readings. You would think that the warning would be a little more deliberate.

I guess the moral of the story: refill at 1/8th of a tank!

Re: Low Fuel Indicator?

Besides the low range indicator, when you get critically low, there is the aforementioned "bong" and fuel level low display. If you have the NAV it asks you if you want the nearest gas station

Yes, that's true. I "forced" the car to do just that for me....

Re: Low Fuel Indicator?

...and when all else fails, look at that little gauge in the lower right corner of the instrument panel -- when it's on the "0" it's time to fill up!

But seriously, I have found that when my fuel low DIC indication appears, it coincides with about 42 miles on the fuel range indicator, and the fuel gauge is pretty much right at "0". Just happened to me on the highway on the way in to work this morning, and I filled up with about 15.6 gallons.
