Queston Regarding Certified Car Warranty

Remove this ad
Hypothetical situation ... well sort of ...

If I purchase a used cts or other Caddilac and have it certified with a warranty to 100,000 miles and within the warranty period a small part fails such as an oil sending unit and causes major engine damage, is the all of the engine damage covered or is there a "weasel clause" in the warranty language that dictates only the repair to the oil sending unit is covered (sorry for the run-on sentence).

Actually, this just happened to me yesterday. The engine in my wifes daily driver, a 2002 Bonneville is toast. The oil sending unit failed and the engine lost most of its oil. Although the warranty expired long ago, the situation above doesn't apply. Although my next automobile will be a used certified cadillac and I'm curious how this situation would be handled with a certified car under warranty.

Re: Queston Regarding Certified Car Warranty

Cadillac Certified Vehicles warranty is ALMOST bumper to bumper. The situation with your Bonneville sucks and I'm sorry to read about it. If this were a Certified Cadillac, it would of been covered IF, as soon as you realized a part has failed, you bring it to a dealer, driven or towed, asap so to prevent further damage. But if the sending unit failed, and you continued to drive untill you had a catastrophic failure, there would be some "weasel" room. Driving on a failed part would be considered abuse/negletic. But, if it all happened at once, warranty would cover the damage. I have seen motors, tranis, and other major components replaced often.
