GM Supplier pricing vs Dealer invoice

Remove this ad
Sorry if this is a dumb question, was wondering about the difference between the two mentioned. My wifes job allows the GM Supplier discount however I have a friend at a dealership that says he would let me order one at dealer invoice, the latter would let us use our GM card earnings. I was wondering which one would be the better deal. Thanks for any input.

Re: GM Supplier pricing vs Dealer invoice

You can check what supplier pricing is at gmfamilyfirst.com and look in the pull down menu under "supplier pricing". You can also see what the invoice price would be at Edmunds.com. Then just compare the two and subtract your GM card earnings and you should be able to tell which will be a better deal. My guess is ordering it at invoice with the credit card points will be better than supplier pricing.

Re: GM Supplier pricing vs Dealer invoice

Dealer Invoice is obviously less, approx. $1,300 depending on options. That a pretty good deal for you from a good friend. You would need to have a GM Extended Family Credit card, not a regular GM Card to use the points on a Supplier Deal.

Re: GM Supplier pricing vs Dealer invoice

My understanding is that with supplier pricing, the dealer can not try to pass on advertising fees and is limited on their handling fees.

Re: GM Supplier pricing vs Dealer invoice

Supplier Pricing (GMU) is 1.5% above invoice and I did not have to pay the dealer document fees $600 or any additional advertising fees. The dealer gets 4.5% on a GMU deal from GM. MSRP on my CTS was 45,985, invoice was $41,920 and GMU was 42,549 ($629 over invoice). If I paid invoice but instead had to pay the dealer fee, it would have cost me more. The GM Card earnings don't apply to GMU unless you have a certain card so I'm almost thinking that if you can use $1000 in GM Card money it might be a better deal. Ask the dealer to run it both ways.

Re: GM Supplier pricing vs Dealer invoice

Remember also that the dealer has a 3% dealer hold back on the invoice price of any factory ordered unit or any unit sitting in inventory that is less than 90 days old.

The dealer doesn't start to pay interest on their floor planning of inventory until the units sit for more than 90 days.

The key to negotiating the very best deal is to buy or order from a large dealership that has a large inventory allocation.

Most if not all of the very large dealers will sell at Supplier Pricing to just about anyone.

I have always negotiated and bought based off of dealer invoice and have never paid more than a $500 over invoice on any car that I have bought.

So if the dealer is receiving 4.5% on a GMU Supplier deal; that represents the 1.5% above invoice plus the 3% dealer holdback from GM.

So effectively on a car with a $60,000 invoice; the dealer is receiving $1800 or 3% in holdback money and another $900 or 1.5% is Supplier Pricing for a net of $2700 (4.5%) before any quarterly dealer bonuses.

Always work from dealer invoice and the best deals are always found at high volume dealerships with large allocations.

The above of course is a completely moot point on limited supply cars in very high demand with limited allocations.
