North American Car of the Year..............

was not the CTS, tho the CTS was a finalist.

The fifteenth annual North American Car and Truck of the Year Awards marked the beginning of the 2008 North American International Auto Show. Hosted by Tony Swan of Car and Driver, the North American Car and Truck of the Year Awards are chosen by a select group of 45 automotive journalists who represent media outlets in the United States and Canada.

Here are the final votes.
I have to admit that I agree with the vote........except that Crossover SUVs are NOT trucks.

North American Car of the Year
Cadillac CTS: 165 points
Chevrolet Malibu: 190 points
Honda Accord: 95 points

North American Truck of the Year
Buick Enclave: 109 points
Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid: 140 points
Mazda CX-9: 201 points

Re: North American Car of the Year..............

Interesting votes…

GM seems to be doing very well. Most likely recent influence of car people not bean counters…..

I agree, they should not mix trucks, SUV’s and CUV’s…as a car guy I would consider a CUV……..never a truck!

Re: North American Car of the Year..............

Good for the Malibu, it deserved it. The new CTS is an awesome car, but the Malibu needed this award to help GM out and get people in to see it. The masses can afford the Malibu not the CTS. The masses is what will help GM out. This award should only go to vehicles made in NA, which would then shoot the CX-9 down since all of them are imported pre-built in Japan. IMO, the Enclave should have won it either way.

Re: North American Car of the Year..............

Yeah the CX-9 is about as much as truck as my Equinox. That is a load of poop, but imrf, I totally agree with what you say about the Malibu. The CTS is a better car, but the masses can not afford it. What they can afford is a 28,000 dollar fullley loaded Malibu with a 3.6. It is a very nice car. Was nicer to me than my pervious 03 CTS.

Re: North American Car of the Year..............

Everyone here has it right.

The CTS and Malibu are 2 of GM's hottest and BEST products ever, and both deserve it, but the Malibu provides that "greatness" at a price level the masses can afford and is a more volume car. Kind of, in a sense, it's a case of getting a lot more than you expect...where the CTS is fantastic, but what "should be" for its price and class.

And having just bought a new '08 Malibu...I, of course, agree more

The only kicker is the choice of the CX-9...it's a very nice crossover, but for quite some time now, the new Buick Enclave has been much hotter as far as public interest, sales, and even professional reviews. All comment on the CX-9 being nice, but the Enclave gets the "wows". Yet, after the fact, they still pass it over first for MT SUV of the year and this award...but oh well.

Re: North American Car of the Year..............

Let's also not forget that if they had gone for the CTS and CX-9 then they would have duplicated Motor Trend's results, and they would not have wanted to do that. And I was fairly certain the Accord would not win and that the CX-9 would. Still I was predicting the CTS, but this was my second most likely scenario.

Re: North American Car of the Year..............

The Malibu is a bigger step up for Chevy than the new CTS is for Cadillac. Both great cars.
