The new CTS is well done. However, it is no STS with the northstar. I test drove a 08 CTS 3 times comparing the performance with the upper end speed of my STS v8. Off the line they are the same, but 70 - 100 the v6 just does not have the torque.
And again, dont get me wrong the new CTS looks great, but compared the more mature look of the STS IMO the STS is superior. I was 23 when I got my STS. I dont have this "age" problem everyone else seems to have.
I agree, the STS price can get out of hand. But right now poeple are paying a $44K+ sticker for the CTS with all of the options. You can pick up a 05 or 06 1SG for $30K these days with low miles. Given that, the STS is the absolute most obvious choice. |

| | Cadillac Owners Enthusiast Cadillac(s): GM bought back my lemon 2008 CTS | | | | | Re: How many are considering a STS to the CTS? Benjamin Simon - I would think the vast majority of buyers, and even more performance-oriented people in these forums who are looking at these cars, are not going to care if there is a minor or moderate torque difference between 70 - 100 mph. What is the difference in 70 - 100 mph times for both vehicles? I can't imagine it's that big a deal.
Also, where would you need to or be able to use that minor 70 - 100 mph performance difference? Even on the wide open roads in the West - you're not going to want to go much faster than 85 unless you want to chance a ticket (or chance an accident with the idiot who pulls onto the interstate from a 2-way stop at the last second). If it is life or death critical that it takes 1 second longer to go from 70 to 85 mph in a CTS than an STS, then you probably shouldn't be making that particular crazy passing maneuver in the first place.
Also, you really ought to compare apples to apples - current CTS versus current STS - not current CTS versus 05 or 06 anything else. Of course an older model car is going to be a better bargain. |

I paid plenty to end my 05 STS lease early because I was that unhappy with the car. I believe it's not going to make it as a model especially now with the CTS being so fine. The STS rivers area is tight for a car that size. The stupid left foot rest gets in the way. The seat bolsters put my legs to sleep, the seats are hard and I never liked a seat the the cushion moves indipendent of the back. The back seat sucks and don't get me started on RWD in wet of snow.
I am in my 08 CTS for about 2 months and put over 3K miles on it and it's just a better more comfortable drivable good looking car. IMHO |

In June we purchased an '07 CTS but we looked very hard at an '06 STS that was still on the lot. The Northstar V8 and extra room were very inviting, both my wife and I loved the STS, we could use the extra room as we were expect child #2 at that time, but the price just wasn't right for us and since we previously had an '04 CTS my wife wanted a car she knew she could handle in all conditions (especially with the new baby). The STS was the better car, but the CTS was the better car for us. To be honest with you, I think both our sons fit nicely in the back of the CTS.
As for comparisions of the new '08 CTS and the STS - I really cannot help you. My wife has forbidden me(as well as herself) to look at the '08 CTS. If we did I know we would lose a LOT of money because we'd have to get one. On the bright side - the '07 is a lease, so we'll be back! |

You can't compare apples to apples as the STS has more options. I only compared them as full optoined RWD Sedans.
CTS is still the best all around value IMO. |

The CTS is very good at the 70-100 kickup. Plenty speed to get yout out of any trouble you might get in. The V8 does have more Git-up in that range, but it useless and unneeded except for braggin rights.
Second, you can't compare the interior layout and design of the STS to the CTS. The STS looks like a plastic "cheap" car on the inside. The CTS looks Polished. I do like the looks of the STS on the exterior, but I also like the looks of the CTS.
Personally, CTS is the first Caddy I've seen that actually got the interior correct. I wouldn't buy a STS if they offered to sell it to me for 30k.
The STS is going to be dead soon anyway... the CTS will take it's place as the midsized car in the Caddy lineup, IMHO. |

I'm not sure how the CTS compares to the STS feature to feature. I do know you can get magnetic ride control on the STS but not the STS. However, I sat in both the new CTS and STS and actually, somehow felt more comfortable in the CTS. I was surprised because I usually like bigger cars better. I don't think the STS is much, if at all, bigger than the CTS. Again, I didn't spend a lot of time looking into dimensions and/or features - but the CTS was more comfortable for me.
And yes, the STS and DTS are being discontinued and will be replaced with one new model.

I sat (and test drove) an 04 cts a few years ago and decided I could never own a cts. l felt like I was in my friends honda (interior space)! Knowing my next car would be a Caddy, I then knew it would have to be an STS. The 08 cts I recently sat in felt amazingly roomier. As a result, I'm not ruling out and probalby leaning towards the cts. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
