Has everyone noticed that when you start you car, during the system self check the articulating headlights will turn. You can see them on your garage wall during the self check.

Re: Articulating Headlights

My neighbor across the street when I was a kid had, a 1929 Nash roadster with a great big Cyclops headlight in front of the radiator that turned with the steering in addition to the regular headlights. It only took Cadillac 79 years to adopt a similar feature.

Re: Articulating Headlights

The HLs do a calibration sequence when starting the car, so the control module can establish the home position. European models have leveling motors on them as well.

That's true, I have it in my '06 CTS.
When I start the car the headlights go up and down and then they get leveled.

You sure that wasn't a 1948 Tucker? Earliest reference that I can find to a steerable headlight is the 1948 Tucker. That was followed by a re-introduction in the 1967 Citroen DS19.

Re: Articulating Headlights

I think it was the Tucker. At least Preston got credit for this as a innovation at the time.
Unless it was a "special", I know for a fact that the 29 Nash did not have an articulated light. It just had two of those huge old lights up front that allowed you see down the road....oh, maybe 50 feet.........

Re: Articulating Headlights

The articulating lights are the coolest thing on this car. I love to drive at night just to see the effect!

I'm an aircraft instrument calibrator & figured that the movement was a self leveling check.
