Exclamation 08 CTS Sunroof Fix (Wind noise when closed)

Remove this ad
I felt this deserved a new thread. I took my new CTS into the dealer today and they fixed the noise I was hearing when the roof is closed. They had to physically lower the front sunroof and now the bar in the middle is flush with the roof and there is no more noise. I've read a lot of people have this problem so hopefully Cadillac can fix it before the car leaves the lot.

In another thread a user (Louie) mentioned the dealer having to adjust the track frame to fix his problem.

Re: 08 CTS Sunroof Fix (Wind noise when closed)

Can you give more details. Did you hear a whistling wind noise? When you say lowered the glass so the middle bar is flush I assume you are looking from the outside. So the glass in the front, back and the bar/seam between the two should all be flush and level?

Re: 08 CTS Sunroof Fix (Wind noise when closed)

I can only tell you that when I drove the car, prior to the fix, it sounded like the roof was open or a window was cracked. It was loud enough to bother me even w/the radio turned up. The dealer said they "lowered the sunroof", they said it was too high and that is why there was a gap between the roof and the middle bar. Now with the roof lowered there is no more noise. If you are having a problem have your dealer adjust the roof, more than likely by lowering your problem will be fixed.

Thanks for this information; not sure why some roofs have this problem, as mine did not. In any case, this is appreciated.

Re: 08 CTS Sunroof Fix (Wind noise when closed)

I bought my wife a CTS in September and I took it for sixty mile trip today - the first time I had been in the car since before Christmas. It has the ultraview sunroof and the noise is incredible - like having all four windows open. Turning the radio on or up makes no difference! The noise is totally intolerable and would not befit a twenty year old pick-up truck, let alone the Motor Trend Car of the Year.

What's going on GM? Our 'early' August built model has a number of other quality issues as well. Two parts of interior trim (A-pillar driver's side and B-pillar passenger side) have come loose. The steering wheel vibrates badly over 60mph (out of balance wehels?) And there is significant wind noise from just about all window seals at all speeds.

This is a great looking car, and the interior is superb, but in retrospect I would not have paid twice the price of a Nissan Altima for a car which in reality is not much better, and of no better quality.

Re: 08 CTS Sunroof Fix (Wind noise when closed)

Are these problems with the earlier built CTS? I picked mine up on January 2. It also has the ultra-view sun roof but so far all has been quiet and no steering vibrations. Although since its winter here we haven't opened the sun roof yet.

Re: 08 CTS Sunroof Fix (Wind noise when closed)

When I picked mine up in November, I had whistling problems with the sunroof. It's an easy fix. Test drove the car before delivery, and they fixed it in the 3 hours that I gave them to finish detailing on delivery day. Don't remember what it looked like or what was exactly wrong with it, but the dealer said that all it took was a "quick alignment." Don't consider the car low quality if the sunroof is misaligned when it comes in. It's easy enough to fix if you let the dealer know that there's a problem.

I purchased mine on 15 Sept. I've had no problems with anything. It is fully loaded.

Re: 08 CTS Sunroof Fix (Wind noise when closed)

Had mine in for "adjustment" in mid-October after a September delivery and initially, it seemed repaired. It has gradually gotten worse though and I am trying to find another two day window that I can bring it in again.

Re: 08 CTS Sunroof Fix (Wind noise when closed)

No problems with my CTS. it is a Dec build.

Early adopters always have this problem. What? That's a surprise?
Sorry.
That's the way it is with Nissan too. I know. I have a Murano. It was the new one in 2003.
SIX trips to the dealer in SIX months.
Things like they FORGOT to tighten the Steering rack!
In fact they forgot to tighten the rack on ALL the 2003s in the first few months.
Coulda killed me!
It was built in Japan too.
So much for "superior" Japanese workmanship.
I am on my FOURTH CD player. (I should have bought a Japanese car with a Japanese CD player. I understand they build the best.)

It takes awhile to iron out the production quirks in a mass produced car.
If you didn't know all this you are forgiven, but just settle down and take the car in for adjustment.

Re: 08 CTS Sunroof Fix (Wind noise when closed)

Mine had some wind noise, took it in 3 times to my dealer. The 3rd time the service manager went for a ride in it and told me it was normal for it to have wind noise because he drove two others from the lot and they were the same. When we got back from our ride I said lets go for a ride in a new one.... well guess what, zero wind noise. I got the car back the next day and it is perfect now. He said they took measurments off of the car with no noise and adjusted my roof the same. The moral of the story is GET A GOOD DEALER WITH A GOOD SERVICE DEPARTMENT!! These guys love to make excuses, it must be easier than repairing the car. My service writer on the second trip in said "congratulations... you got yourself a GM product.. this is how it comes from the factory and we are exspected to fix it" I wonder whats wrong with American Manufacturing.

""congratulations... you got yourself a GM product.. this is how it comes from the factory and we are exspected to fix it"

I would be outa there so fast your head would spin.
I don't need my service writer playing the victim.
Aside from the fact that he is full of %&%&*%.
Any rating agency will tell you that GM is building better and better cars all the time.

I wouldn't deal with those people if they were the last dealership in my area.
I don't need whiners.
I want my service writer and dealership to be professional.
In fact, I demand it.

Glad to hear that your car is adjusted properly now.

Re: 08 CTS Sunroof Fix (Wind noise when closed)

The sad part is I bought a Escalade EXT two weeks after the CTS from the same people before I realized how bad they were. I spent $110K in 2 weeks and this is how there Service Department operates. Broome Cadillac in Kansas City.

I am going to a different dealer now, these guys cant fix anything on either one of my cars.
