Recorded Audio DVDs Don't Work

Remove this ad
I've been attempting to burn audio DVDs (using Windows Vista and DVD+RW media). I've attempted all of the format options that I think are available but none of the discs plays. When inserted into the audio system it attempts to load the disc but gives a "can't read format" type of error. A commercial audio DVD works just fine. Any guidance on this? I'm trying to transfer large numbers of files over to the HDD and this way because I don't have a large enough USB drive to do it conveniently. Thanks for any help.

Re: Recorded Audio DVDs Don't Work

Thankfully, this one is an easy fix. You should use DVD-R discs. DVD+RW discs are rewriteable. They are always finicky when trying to play them in drives other than the one you burned them in. I think they even warn you of this on the package. Also, your DVD burning software may be set to leave the disc open after you make a burn. A DVD has to be "finalized" after a burn, otherwise it won't play in other DVD drives. If the disc is left open, you can continue to add more data, music, etc. at another burn session. Once it is finalized, you can't add anything else to it. Some DVD burning software is set by default to leave the disc open, thus allowing one to add additional music at a later session. Some software is set by default to finalize the DVD. Now you have to go into the "Options" or "Settings" section of your software and look for this adjustment.

Re: Recorded Audio DVDs Don't Work

I copied about 3Gb worth of MP3 files to a Verbatim DVD +R disk using Nero 8.0 and it played just as expected showing folder and file info on the display. However, your term "Audio DVD" may mean something different.

Just curious.....will the audio system player dual layer DVDs? These are not the two sided DVDs. Dual layer has twice the storage capacity of regular DVDs, all on the same side.

Re: Recorded Audio DVDs Don't Work

Sorry, I don't know. My DVD writer does not support dual layer DVD's so I can't test.

Re: Recorded Audio DVDs Don't Work

Audio DVD files are .ac3 format. I ripped some tracks from video DVDs using a DVD audio ripper program and saved them to a DVD-RW disk. I've also made back-up copies of audio DVDs using Roxio that play fine on the CTS.
