Well then. If you have an agreement with Sal, you should have just said that and ignored the rest. No need debating when neither side is willing to concede.

Three or four times I've thought this thread was done. Only to have someone stir it all up again.

It's one of my personal failings that I can't seem to ignore direct challenges. It ticks me off when I raise valid points, and others respond by simply not responding. I haven't been able to manage to do the same. Maybe I should work on it.

CR and J.D. Power would simply ignore you. Which I suppose is what you'd prefer.
Aaarrggh, you still don't get it. I'd prefer that I receive a response that doesn't start off with "If you'd bothered to read....". That's what I'm talking about, MKaresh. If you feel compelled to respond to every sling and arrow, at least keep the emotion and sarcasm out of it. If you want to be perceived as a major player in this market, act like it.

In most cases they are heavily loaded and even just plain mean, with no intention of honest debate.
Again, it shouldn't matter whether they're "mean". You're supposed to be a business, not a 10-year-old. If you think they have no intention of honest debate, don't let yourself get dragged into it.

And yet a number of people here would have me believe that the results have nothing to do with it. It's not the results themselves, but that I'm not a supporting member,
Of course the results have something to do with it. The bad results + announcing them like it was major breaking news from the NY Tmes + posted by a guy who "appears" to be using the forum for his own personal gain without helping to support its operations + gets snippy when challenged.

or that I didn't deliver the results with the right words (because the rest of you choose your words so carefully), and so on.
Again, you slam the users of the forum -- was that necessary?

This is now at beating-dead-horse level because you are obviously unable to separate business from personal issues and really "get" what I'm talking about. I do with you luck with your business, but I suggest you have a seasoned PR person handle your communications and, in particular, criticism or controversy.

Re: Help show Consumer Reports how it's done

I started this as a personal project, and to a certain extent it still is one. You're not the first to suggest a transition to something more impersonal, but it won't happen overnight, and I tend to see this possible transition as more of a bad thing than a good thing. So I'm not rushing to do it.

I am a bit shocked that you'd want a PR professional handling communications. Usually people say they don't like PR and the way it tends to say (and not say) things. I know I don't. I thought I was doing things better, not worse, by keeping communication direct and personal.

Maybe not?

It is very hard for someone as personally involved as I am to remain unemotional, no matter what, as you are suggesting. There's a necessary trade-off here. I have worked quite hard to remain as unemotional as possible here, but there are limits. Is the responsibility for keeping things civil 100 percent mine? Can a discussion ever remain civil if one side has all the responsibility for keeping it that way?

Seriously, would people prefer everything handled in the typically evasive, impersonal PR fashion?
