Onstar GPS?

I was looking at my local dealers CTS inventory and noticed out of about 15 cars, none had nav. I asked my salesman why and he said, "People are saving the money and just using the Onstar's voice turn by turn directions to get where they want to go". Has anyone else used this service? Is it effective? How hard is it to set up a trip? How much extra a month do you pay Onstar?

i don't know about extra cost, but it's easy to use.......just push the button and give them the address. the turn directions show up on the DIC.

OK, I went to Onstar and watched the demo http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp/plans/tbt.jsp

It seems interesting in that you never have to input to a screen. It's all spoken. $300/yr , but that would include all the Onstar services. Would I miss the pop-up screen? Don't know, it does look cool. Would save about $3,000 though. Once again, has anyone tried it?

It is easy to use I'll admit but not sure of the "saving money" thing. I want to say 60% of the cars thru here are equipped with Nav. Onstar is free for the first year and then you have to pay $299 a year after that. I think alot is just what you are used to.

It's VERY effective, and for all intensive purposes, exactly like having a Nav give you directions, in delivery.

Just instead of putting it all in and searching on your own, you connect to Onstar and tell them what & where, and it's downloaded and read back to you "turn by turn". As for cost, after the first year, it's the typical Onstar fees vs. a Nav that you pay for in the beginning, but never has any more fees.

I like the cool factor of a screen, and also being able to play with it on your own, but the Turn by Turn is almost more attractive being simpler and not costing anything in the start.
