Question TPMS-tire sensor part #? cts08 awd4- 18

Remove this ad
I'm planning to buy wheels for winter tires and have sensor install. What is the gm part no # for the tire sensor for cts 08 awd? Where can we get it for reasonable price?
Can we inactivate the TPMS computer so that we dont need to buy extra sensors for winter wheels/tires?
If in case we dont have any choice, but to install the sensor for the winter wheels, can we calibrate it ourselves in our car panel? Sometimes the tire installer (not dealer) dont know how to calibrate it.

Hoping someone will have the info.

Thank you very much for your help

Re: TPMS-tire sensor part #? cts08 awd4- 18

There is a procedure that you can follow that does not require a special TPMS tool (from page 5-74 of the Owners Manual):

Quote:
The TPMS sensors can also be matched to each
tire/wheel position by increasing or decreasing the tire’s
air pressure. If increasing the tire’s air pressure, do
not exceed the maximum inflation pressure indicated on
the tire’s sidewall. To decrease the tire’s air-pressure
use the pointed end of the valve cap, a pencil-style
air pressure gage, or a key.
You have two minutes to match the first tire/wheel
position, and five minutes overall, to match all four
tire/wheel positions. If it takes longer than two minutes,
to match the first tire and wheel, or more than
five minutes to match all four tire and wheel positions,
the matching process stops and you need to start over.
The TPMS matching process is outlined below:
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON/RUN with the
engine off.
3. Press the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter’s
lock and unlock buttons at the same time for
approximately five seconds. The horn sounds
twice to signal the receiver is in relearn mode
and Tire Learning Active message displays on the
DIC screen.
4. Start with the driver side front tire.
5. Remove the valve cap from the valve stem.
Activate the TPMS sensor by increasing or
decreasing the tire’s air pressure for 10 seconds,
or until a horn chirp sounds. The horn chirp, which
can take up to 30 seconds to sound, confirms
that the TPMS sensor identification code has
been matched to this tire position.
6. Proceed to the passenger side front tire, and repeat
the procedure in Step 5.
7. Proceed to the passenger side rear tire, and repeat
the procedure in Step 5.
8. Proceed to the driver side rear tire, and repeat the
procedure in Step 5.
9. After hearing the confirming horn chirp, for the
driver side rear tire, the horn sounds two more
times to signal the tire learning mode is no longer
active. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK/OFF.
10. Set all four tires to the recommended air
pressure level as indicated on the tire and
loading information label.
11. Put the valve caps back on the valve stems.

Re: TPMS-tire sensor part #? cts08 awd4- 18

this is a total newb question, but is it possible to remove tpms from a set of wheels and put em on a diff one? like i ask cuz im thinking of taking the standard 17" wheels off my CTS and putting on 20" rims and tires some time next summer. So, i was hoping theres a way to avoid buying a new set of tpms. I know u can use the method above to bypass it or whatever but i figure if these are the wheels permenently on the vehicle (e.g. not just snow or summer tires on there temporarily), i'd like to have a tpms on them. thanks.

Thanks Zymurgy for info. Sometimes we are lazy to read the manual.

Yes, your TPMS can be removed for their current wheels and put on new wheels. Just how easy or difficult this is depends on the new wheels. Some wheels are made to accept TPMS without modification. Others may require you to band the sensors to the wheels.

If you remove the sensors from your current wheels and put them on the new wheels on the same corner of the car, then you will not even need to rematch the TPMS using the procedure above.

Re: TPMS-tire sensor part #? cts08 awd4- 18

I wonder if a GM tech II scan tool at the various dealerships can shut off the tire pressure sensors..

I hate to say it but for 600 bucks it costs to replace the sensors if someone wants a second set of rims..

I'd like to be able to turn off the sensor ..

I know the guys with corvettes can turn the sensors on and off via a GM tech tool device..(some of the Z06 guys were having sensors installed and having a GM tech "turn on the sensors via the tech II)

JBsZ06 -

Where did you come up with $600 for a new set of sensors. You can buy the Corvette sensors for $50 each at GM Parts House. Nowhere close to $600 total.

Oh good..

I got the 600 from tiresdirect.com or tirerack when I was debating if I should order new 19 inch rims/tires like the showcar..

They quoted me 600 bucks for the sensors..

I was like F that!

Glad to hear its only 50 each..

Thats a lot more like it!

Thanks

JB
