Hi folks,
Last Thursday, I took my car in for an oil change and they also did a tire rotation. Before that, after several attempts of balancing the tires, the shimmy was almost gone. However, after the last tire rotation, the steering wheel shimmy is back. Drove 130 miles Friday and it is pretty annoying. What do you guys suggest? I guess they should rebalance the tires! Anyway, I have an appointment Monday morning to change the rear brake pads because the breaks would squeal when reaching low speed time to time. I’ll tell them at the same time about the recurring steering wheel shimmy.

Did you get your car back yet?? Did they correct your shimmy? Mine is back and it is more violent. When on the freeway about 70mph the steering wheel shimmies so bad it hurts my arm holding onto it for any extended period of time. I am waiting to hear back from my dealership as they have contacted GM engineers and area rep.

Re: Have We Solved The Steering Vibration On The Freeway?

Just purchased a 2009 CTS. Felt vibration in steering wheel at 45-55 mph. Took to dealer who thought I was a crazy lady and didn't feel it. Had me test drive another 2009 and did not experience it..They were saying it was the road, the way I gripped the steering wheel or I'm just not use to a car like this(just traded in a mini-van). So they took all 4 tires off the 2nd car and put on mine. Problem still there. They then said it was a module that needed to be replaced. Problem still there, they still don't feel it. Finally took the mechanic out with me in the car and guess what...he felt it. Now they disassembled and tweeked my exhust system. Still there. Then they changed the timing belt. Idles like a dream, but you guessed it, still there. I don't even need to look at the speedometer to know when we've hit 45, you can feel it in the passanger seat and even anyone in the backseat can tell you. They claim there is nothing more they can do. But it's still there. At my whits end. What do I do now? Paid a lot for a car thatshakes all the time. Any help?

When I bought my CTS I had a vibration about the same speed. After going in twice the dealer had the drive shaft replaced. That eliminated the problem.

Re: Have We Solved The Steering Vibration On The Freeway?

We have over 44 pages of complaints as well as other threads on the same subject and yet no significant resolution. It would seem that if you could get all of the people with this problem; narrow down the complaint and present it to Cadillac in mass, they would have to sit up and listen. Even if you had to resort to outside sources; car mags, media and the such the ky is to organize into a united front.

Re: Have We Solved The Steering Vibration On The Freeway?

I wonder if any common denominators can be found among the cars exhibiting vibrations. Suspension packages, wheel size, make of tire, etc.

Re: Have We Solved The Steering Vibration On The Freeway?

When I went in for my lemon law review, a "lead engineer" for the CTS platform as well as a head from Cadd Legal sat across from me. I printed out every page of complaints from this thread, in addition to my 5+ repair attempts where the service manager had, "this is a known design complaint" all over my paperwork. Their response, "you can't trust a online forum."

I responded, "even when it's such a high volume of your 2008 + 2009 CTS customers - with the same problem?"

GM's official response:
This (Vibration in steering wheel and or drive train) is totally normal and "some people" are overly sensitive.

Yes I had the "washer install" it made matters worse.

THEY DON'T CARE. This issue won't be fully fixed until they 6 Sigma the drive train. I can't believe they are still putting out 2009's with these issues?!

Re: Have We Solved The Steering Vibration On The Freeway?

Have a Wagon due for delivery in the next 3 or 4 weeks. I had planned to waive the "Satisfaction Guarantee" offer and take the $500 credit.
After reading all the complaints here about steering vibration problems, I have decided to take the 60 day guarantee and if I find such a problem
I'll just give it back to GM, take my money and look for something else. I don't want to make a career out trying to solve GM's design/production
problems.
