Anyone Seen Markups on the 08's

Remove this ad
I was at my dealership today, checking on my car, and I went to look at the new red 08 CTS that had just come in. Before its on the lot good they put a $3000 markup on it making it a $51000 sticker. Anyone have a dealership nearby doing the same thing? The dealership here also have a $4500 markup on their Solstice's, granted there still sitting there.

Re: Anyone Seen Markups on the 08's

I was at a Chevrolet dealership about a month ago & they had a fully loaded red Corvette Z06 total sticker price was around $75,000.
Dealer markup was $20,000 making it $95,000 before tax & license!
Are they in that high a demand?
Pretty outrageous I immediately thought.

Have to be insane to buy anything over sticker. Shoot for invoice and go from there.

Don't do business with a dealer charging over sticker. They are greedy and just gouging the consumer. There are plenty of dealers discounting the sticker. Look around before giving business to scumbags like this. I just ordered one last week and the sticker was discounted.

Supply and demand. I wouldn't call it evil, but its certainly unfavorable for the consumer. I guess this is why Chrysler is going to auction off the first few Challengers.

What dealership are you at? I'm looking to get an 08. You probably know the dealership in Shelby.

I'm new to the forum and hope that I don't make anyone upset here, but we had access to our invoice that showed a 6.2K markup to sticker on our very well equipped but not totally loaded (no GPS or AWD) 08

The "markup" being referred to in this thread is a "Market Adjustment" that dealers add ON TOP of MSRP price. So if the MSRP is $46,000, there would be some sort of additional dealer made "window sticker" that typically would list the MSRP of $46,000, then a "Market Adjustment" of, say, $4,000 and a new Total Price of $50,000. They expect some sucker to come in and actually pay the inflated $50,000 price.

This is a fairly common practice on new, hot vehicles that are in limited supply. Corvette Z06's had $10,000 to $20,000 "Market Adjustments" on them for quite some time.

I understand this additional "Adjustment" is commonplace in many instances on vehicles that are in high demand (good ole American way)! I just wanted to let those people know how much markup over invoice I noted on our 44+K MSRP CTS. Maybe, for those that are in markets that are able to "deal" with their dealer, they might have a little more information to obtain the best price on their purchase.

Thanks for the welcome!!
