It looks like I need to see 4200 and then 5000 to make the trip to yonkers to see the vehicle..

I'm fine with that. (I'm holding my wife off from buying a dam Volvo S80 this week) I don't know how much longer I can hold her off ..She's getting antsy for a new car..

HOpe its next week or so ..

At this point I'd be willing to drive at least 100 miles to just see the car in person!

Im' surprised manhattan cadillac didn't get one yet.. You'd think with the high volume they must do they'd get an early allocation.. but Yonkers it is! (Yonkers is actually a dump of area for the most part..)

Who'd have thought they would get the first 2008 cadillac CTS ?

You are correct.

5 = Body Style (5 = 4 door sedan)
7 = Restraint Code (7 = driver and passenger front and side air bags, rear side airbags)
V = Engine code
8 = Check digit
8 = model Year
0 = Plant (0 = Lansing)
109171 = Production sequence number

Normally, production sequence numbers start at 100001. No way they have made 9171 08 CTSs. Something strange going on here.

A comparably equipped BMW 535i (a six banger) is around $58K and a 335i is the same price ($48K).

Awesome post...thanks for the info. They couldn't have had 6000-7000 test/pool vehicles out there right (before they started consumer production)?

I really doubt it. Maybe a couple hundred at most. They must not have started production at 100001.

At Lansing, since STS, SRX and CTS all go down the same line, could it be that 9171 is the total 2008 number of all vehicles made so far?

That is certainly a possibility, but since the model is identified by digits 4-5, there is no reason to have unique sequence numbers.

Don't trust those colors. In the the GM 2008 car and truck guide I have (PDF) it's almost indistinguishable from black. This does not mean it is correct, since Blue Chip in the guide is almost black too, and Sunset Blue is the same hue as Thunder Gray which, judging from actual videos and photos I've seen are quite different.

The only reasonably way to see an accurate rendering of the actual color is to wait until it appears on cadillac.com, but the best is to wait for real life samples.
