HID kit upgrade question

Remove this ad
Hey guys, first time on the CTS side of the site with one quick question. I know somebody who has the base model of an 09 CTS, which obviously doesn't have HID's installed in it, and want to add them on there. I was just wondering if there is anything I need to do to attach the kits, such as adding a relay for example. On my STS the kits were pretty much plug and play, and from what I've read on the older versions of the CTS, some people had to attach grounds, harnesses, etc...
Oh! and do you have to remove the front bumper of the car to get to the headlights as well? Because I had to do that on my STS and it was a pain.

Re: HID kit upgrade question

i've done some research on this and i'm pretty sure the answers are yes and yes. you do have to mount something (harness, ballast, something...not sure what) under the bumper or behind the headlight area. And i'm also sure people who have switched out bulbs have mentioned having to drop the bumper...these are a few reasons why i haven't done a HID conversion kit myself. hope this helps...

Re: HID kit upgrade question

Thanks for the info. I was pretty much expecting the bumper coming off, but still unsure of how the wiring is affected. The kit does have a plug and play ballast like the one I put on my STS but I've been doing some research as well and found that installing a kit affects the DRL's of the car. The only solution I've found for the DRL issue is to remove the DRL fuses so that they won't start up up and mess with the HID kits. Is there anything else I need to know before I attempt this?
