OK, so I looked in my manual and i think i have found the two fuses in question. LO BEAM DRL and DRL RT is this correct. The first one is located on top row and the second towards the bottom right.

Re: How to disable Daytime Running Lights (DRL's)

on top of the HID are two square lights. The top one being the blinker. What is the square light in the middle?
I guess in Europe they disabled it...

This is with the blinker on

Re: How to disable Daytime Running Lights (DRL's)

Thanks for the info. I hate DRLs. I only considered a GM vehicle after they changed them so that you can at least turn them off.

The schematic is a little hard to read. How are the two fuses labeled in the fuse block?

I am looking forward to being DRL free and not having to remember to turn them off manually when I drive the CTS.

Re: How to disable Daytime Running Lights (DRL's)

I've been able to turn off the DRLs since I took delivery without modifying anything.

Turning the spring loaded light switch clockwise one click causes the DIC to display AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL OFF. At this point, the DRLs are no longer illuminated. Repeat this action and the DRLs are back on. Simple enough.

Re: How to disable Daytime Running Lights (DRL's)

They're a safety feature, there is no doubt that even in the daylight you're more likely to be seen if your lights are on and therefore less likely to be hit (at least head on). Here in canada, they're mandatory.

Why don't you like them?

I think it was Greyhound Bus that proved driving with lights on during the day will save lives. This was back in the 60's.

This works for the duration in which its set? example, you don't have to keep doing this every time you get in the car if you want them off? Or, will it ultimately hold this setting until you change it no matter what. (Yet to get outside and try it..)

Re: How to disable Daytime Running Lights (DRL's)

You have to do it each time you start the car, plus it also disables the autoheadlights. Hence why I disabled mine and made a how to

Re: How to disable Daytime Running Lights (DRL's)

It has been a while since this hack was found and I wanted to know if anyone that might have went thru with it was experiencing any problems? I'm thinking about pulling the fuses on my only because every time I start the car I know the lights roll right then back and one of these times they are not going to come back. With my luck it will be as soon as my warranty runs out. I have been noticing many cts on the road lately and think it would look better with them off, maybe a more stealth look.

Re: How to disable Daytime Running Lights (DRL's)

I may be wrong but this is how I have experienced it. Only the headlights roll back and forth, not the daytime running lights (DRL's). So they only go back and forth when you start in the dark.

Re: How to disable Daytime Running Lights (DRL's)

I did Chris's mod on my 2009 CTS and I love it. No problems and the car looks great without the DRL's.

Re: How to disable Daytime Running Lights (DRL's)

thanks bryson, I find it odd you can't take them out of auto prior to starting like I can on my 05. I appears southern was thinking the same thing. For those of you who start your cars in garages. For me this is all the time I wonder if he ever came up with something. I still feel I'm causing unnecessary wear on my car.

Re: How to disable Daytime Running Lights (DRL's)

As much as I dont like DRL's, the 08's look alot nicer then the 03-07's...

They are mandatory in Canada, but there's not alot of chance you will get pulled over for it. Ive been runnning without them for years.

Re: How to disable Daytime Running Lights (DRL's)

DRL's are there for a purpose, to be better seen during the day and prevent accidents. I think they look great with the ice cube optics.
