Which of these two are the better performing UHP A/S tire?....

The great debate. A much cheaper All season tire vs. the premium name brand tire. Is paying $300-400 more worth it?

    Size: 235/50/-18

    Competitors:
    ***Falken Azenis PT-722
    or the
    ***Michelin Sport A/S 3

    Keeping in mind:
1- non-soft sidewall (sidewall flex)-can corner like a UHP summer tire.
2 - ride qualilty - kids won't feel like the tires are made frock rock boulders.
3 - durability with aggressive driving - missing tire chunks won't start to appear, etc.
4 - longevity (will be primarily used as a 3 season tire, not in winter)
    5 - Overall value.
    6 - Anything else.

    Thanks for your input guys!

    Keith

Maybe check with the V forum also. They might drive more aggressively (for the obvious reason) and have opinions on tires that may suit what youre looking for. I just replaced the Goodyear eagle rsa2 245/45r19 that came standard on my 12 sedan awd. I replaced them at 37k miles but they would of lasted until 45, but getting around in the snow is a concern. And I only paid 130 a tire. For me, who does 20k miles a year, they are the best all around tire with an excellent price I drive agressively and beat up on my car and they haven't let me down. As far as your two brands, I've never had a bad experience with Michelin, but have no experience with falken.

    Good luck

I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. I would definitely go with the Michelins.

I have a friend who has built and raced many a street car over the years, and he is very happy with Falken tires. A lot of Honda S2000 drivers have used the Falkens too, and I've never heard any complaints.

Michelin Tires. They make some really nice high performance all-season and high performance summer tires.. Falkens are made by Firestone.... I am old enough to remember the Firestone 500 tires on my Charger.... Worthless and dangerous.

Dry traction? Wet traction? Longevity? Noise? Many different factors go into tire choices/decisions. Depends entirely what you want out of them.

The PT722 isn't even Falken's highest performing A/S tire (that would be the Ziex ZE912), so it's going to fall well short of the performance that the Pilot A/S 3 offers. The new Michelin has already established itself as the tire to beat in the UHPAS field. And despite the fact it offers better performance than the PT722, the A/S 3 has a better mileage warranty, so longevity should be just as good, if not better.

    (1) Pretty sure Falken is not associated with Firestone at all, and (2) even if they were, what does a tire that hasn't been produced since the 1970s have to do with what a company is producing today?

I still go back to TireRack.com. They have all of those variables listed for a tire so you can make an informed decision and tailor a tire to your tastes.

I have the A/S 3's. They are great. Compared to stock, they have much better turn-in, dry, and wet handling (you read my previous post on them). They are a tad bit noisier. Ride quality is basically a wash. They may be a tad harsher, but nothing dramatic (barely noticeable).
