I am starting to experience the same issue as pldia. The intake is making a whistling noise (faint, but definitely very audible, even with the windows up). I notice it the most between 2 and 3 thousand RPM at moderate throttle load. I'm not certain if its the MAF that's making the noise (unlikely as the old intake did not make that noise). I'm guessing its either the filter or some other components. PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THIS ASAP and let us know if there is any sort of fix. Initially when it was 90+ degrees out, and I was driving the vehicle harder, it was less audible. But now that its cooled down and the air has gotten a little bit more dense, its become a lot more audible!
First, you really should double check the install to ensure the intake is installed properly and everything is tight, sealed, and intact. Especially the filter, as it mounts to a relatively short flange.
We believe we may know what this being described. It’s the sound of the air going past the throttle plate when accelerating from cruise. There is a split second when you put your foot in it, that there is a slightly audible sucking sound. This sound is masked by the dense OEM filter and air box enclosure. We suppose it could be considered a “side effect” by some, to others it’s the sound of a cool intake.
Got mine today. Installed pretty easy but it took me a little longer than I expected it to take. Still not too bad. Instructions for this specific kit would be better instead of using the airaid v kit. Its close enough though.
The whistle is there sometimes but I love the other music made now.
Sounds and performs awesome. Much improved throttle response.
My Butt dyno tells me its doing its job. Eventually I'll put this on real rollers. There is a chassis dyno local to me.
Next is the exhaust. Bob what 'cha got? Where are those sound clips we talked about?
Thanks for the fast service -- got the intake installed this afternoon. Install went pretty smooth, I had to buy a thread tap but that was the only thing I was missing. Took a bit longer than I expected, but overall it went well.
I'm very pleased with the new sound!
Next up might be the exhaust -- do you have any further details on your axle-back setup?
Sorry about the missing thread tap Pat. I'm trying to get videos or sound clips of the 3.6 exhaust, hopefully we will have this done soon! We have 1 system currently in stock.

My kit did not come w/ a tap for the 1/4-20 screw that goes in at the bottom of the intake box. I did however, find one at harbor freight for 11 bucks! :-D
Tapped the bottom hole and now my intake box is VERY securely fastened to my vehicle. I have to drive it some more, but the whistle noise seems to have gone down just a bit... but it could also be the weather has changed, and the air is cooler and denser... perhaps this is having a great affect?
Been driving it for a few days now, still make a little bit of a whistle noise as before. Definitely the Throttle body making it. Oh well, I just love the overall benefits from the intake WAY to much to give it up over a minor whistle i hardly ever hear.
Hello and I'm new to this site. I have the 08 CTS 3.6 (AWD) Caddy and would love this air box. The only thing is I need some time in order to get one due to money. I still need to fix my 06 GTO, I broke my half shaft at the track, so money right now is a little tight. I really want one of these air boxes, if this unit is anything like for the GTO, then I'm all for this cause this will really help these cars breathe.
This is my first Cadillac and want to make sure I do the right thing for her, and from what I’ve been reading KPE intake is a great performance improvement so count me in, I’d like to be on the group by list.
Hey bob, any chance KPE is working on some long tubular headers for the 3.6L DI engine? Also any updates on your exhaust system? Would be great to hear some power numbers and some audio clips!
Hello Beanjapan, There are no plans at this time to build headers for the 3.6 DI. No updates or videos on the exhaust. If there was more interest, we could get some videos and dyno done.
KPE, thanks for the response. That link shows me the normal product listing at $297. Is there a promo code or some other special way to get the GB price? How long will the sale be going on? Thanks!
So this KPE intake is the very same like the original Airaid system? Even the badge at the Airaid is the same size and shape (i.e. debadged) and it is too expensive to create a new rebranded filter box or larger box for everything. It also does make the same noticeable whistle sound around the same rpm under partial load. So if anything should be changed to the design KPE may put some pressure onto Airaid to do it.
And this noise indeed is normal for such air intakes as the stock system has been designed to prevent such noises. Have a look inside the Airraid (or KPE) tube where the ventilation tube is connected to. The port inlet is straight with sharper plastic edges compared to the stock parts. Also you will notice that these tubes are wider in diameter after the MAF what causes the air to be slowed down. This together with such port inlets usually cause such noises (some other cars experience sounds like a "honking goose"). A MKII version could be designed to eliminate these sounds. Additionally the usual noises like described from the TB blades are more audible due to the conical air filter that is not fitted in an enclosure. It is only covered by the upper plate what results in more noise that cannot be avoided.
Regarding the performance measures one must be aware that the given power rating is on the flywheel. Real wheel horsepower is somewere between 15 and 22% less depending on the type of drivetrain (automatic, AWD) and its loss. A good dyno (rolling road) with coast-down method can show the real power on the wheels (one may measure around 250hp) with engine flywheel power calculated by adding the drivetrain loss and proper correction (SAE, DIN).
The iPhone app can only be used to compare before and after as its measures and calcs are not that appropriate. So if you have the app, do the test 5 times before the install and again 5 times afterwards. Take the mean of each 5 and the resulting difference is the real gain. Since the installation can be done in about 10 minutes the ambient will not change much and therefore the measures are compareable.
