Remember, the CTS-V coupe, 2015 version is, yes indeed, is a limited production model of 500 (should have been 556). And for that $5000 premium for that "limited production" model (like the Corvette, as your salesman mentioned) you get contrasting red stitching on your seats. Period.

I tested the key fob problem by trying to force the key off with my knee pushing against the key fob. It seemed to me that it was difficult but possible if a rigid key ring was used. When I tried a flexible key ring, I was not able to transmit enough force at the angle needed to force the key off. In my case, at 6 ft, I also shortened the key ring to minimize bumping. This is not a scientific test nor does it account for the many variables. However, I thought it would be of interest. All disclaimers apply - use at your own risk! I am not recommending this in place of Cadillac's advice.2014-07-23 at 08.26.44.jpg

This whole thing is stupid on GM's part. They expect folks to not put a key fob on the end of their key? I have cursed the number of times in the last three weeks I have locked my key fob in my car and had to unlock it with just a key.

I know, we always used to do it that way, so then why even have a key fob? Hey, GM, you can discontinue the key fobs and look at the money you'll save.

The easy way is to go back to dash panel installation, like a Ford Fusion. The position of the key switch makes it necessary for me to wrap my key fob forward to keep it off my knee. That does load the switch in the on position and prevent it from turning to off, so at least I don't have to worry about "unintended shutoff".

my keys are tied with a piece of leather bootlace.

I think Rab uses the same leather tie method.

What I don't get is with keyless entry there is nothing hanging from the ignition, why do they want to replace the hidden key blade? There is no way the key or fob would ever have contact with the ignition switch.

    Because it's GM.

I have my seat cranked back and my knee can hit the key, because my steering column is pulled all the way back too. A lot depends on whether you want to raise the column enough to clear the keys and block your view of the DIC controls and the wiper switch as well as part of the gauge cluster.

Re: GM's latest RECALL includes CTS...

Just looked online on the GM owner center - there is now a recall listed for my car. GM recall # N140172, issued on Jul 21, 2014.

    Repair Description:
Dealers are to provide two replacement key rings. Vehicles with slotted keys will also receive key inserts. This will be provided free of charge.

However, the replacement parts are not available.

And that is because GM has not come up with the design that will repair all the recalls with one fix. They still are skimping to save a buck at the expense of US, the consumer. They still show their butt to all of us. One man's opinion.

Re: GM's latest RECALL includes CTS...

One other thing about this GM recall.

Okay, I am not sure but I would believe they don't want us to have anything at all attached to the ignition key. This is based on what I have read in the newpaper and elsewhere. However, since they have listed some of our cars as being in the process of a recall but not yet recalled until they come up with a suitable cheap GM style fix, the least they could do is to notify us via U.S. mail about this potential problem. Typical GM. Don't spend $0.50 on a letter that could save a life.

With all the crap that I carry and pickup coming and going to the car, I've lost my car three times in the last week. I spent at least an hour each time trying to find it. Very annoying and inconvenient.
