    Alternator no bueno

Driving home for lunch today, "SERVICE BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM" flashed up on my DIC and my car went into battery saver mode. Called OnStar and they could not get any feedback so I decided to drive straight to the dealer. Apparently, the alternator decided to stop working and needs to be replaced. 70,000 miles on my car so $850.00 out of pocket.

    HAPPY HUMP DAY!! <----sarcasm

    An alternator failing @ 70K I understand.
$850 for replacement I do not..
The AC Delco unit is $242.00 from Rock Auto, assuming the dealer pays less.
    That is one expensive R&R.

Hoping that at least includes new belts. LOL

Ya, I hated to have it done at the dealership but I had no choice. My regular mechanic is out of town for a while. I'm sure he would have been cheaper.

The problem with ordering online is it takes about a week if not more to get the part. I don't have any other form of transportation, so I really need my car. Also, I live in an apartment and I don't have many tools or a shop to do the work.

I doubt that price includes a new belt but they did give me a loaner.

I thought only Lexus gave the reach around.

And you wonder why people don't want to go to the dealers... I would have checked at a local parts store.

Amazon Prime! Two day shipping, usually a relative cheap upgrade to next day as well.
