blown fuse stopping codes from being scanned?

2008 cts4 di. Is there a fuse that allows a scanner to pull codes? Just stopped st my local autozone to have my CEL scanned and 2 scanners later neither would scan the ecm, theyd power up but never connect. The autoZone Guy told me there was a fuse that must be blown preventing the scanner from connecting. Is this possible? Never heard of a fuse stopping a scanner from pulling a code, if this is in fact true.. which fuse would I need to change? One thing aftet another currently with this car

It's usually the cigarette lighter fuse that powers the ALDL. A lot of the time the fuses will blow due to poor fitting cell phone chargers.

I have one from a gas station, wouldn't be suprised if that's whats causing it. will check my manual for which fuses to check. Thanks for the reply!

If the scanner powers up, then its almost certainly not a fuse.

All OBD2 diagnostic testers I've seen or used connects to the DLC under the dash and powers up from there. Never seen one that powers up from a "cigarette lighter plug"not saying there are not any, I have just never seen one. A lot depends on the person who is using the tester and the amount of knowledge he has on how to use it. I have a Innova 3100 and when I first got it I had a little problem getting it to link up to some vehicles until I learned more about it and how it worked. To be honest, I read the manual.

The OBD2 port is typically powered by the same circuit as the cigarette lighter/power port...

Perhaps you have a cig lighter that is switched, i.e., ignition on-lighter on, ignition off-lighter off.
