Someone stole my side mirror :(

    Hey guys,

So, this morning I had the pleasure of discovering my side mirror on the driver side of my 2013 Cadillac CTS coupe had been stolen. It was a clean robbery, as nothing was damaged. The mirror seems to have gently been detached, unplugged and taken. The wiring is all in tact, and seems like it would be an easy replacement. Problem is, when I called the service department, they estimated the work at $350 (!!!!). Needless to say, i'm curious to see if there are any recommendations on this website as to where I can get a replacement mirror for that model. Like I said, It really doesn't look like it would be hard to replace. I'd like to do this ASAP as it's quite dangerous to drive blind on my driver side, needless to say. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Man, that really sucks!

How did they take it off? Was your car unlocked? It looks like they would need to be inside the car to remove the three nuts holding it on.

Maybe Chris from Rippy Cadillac (phone 800-Rippy22) will chime in and offer you a deal as a forum member. Or try eBay.

How much of the $350 was labor? Maybe you can install it yourself?

    Good Luck, Marv

I think I wasn't clear enough. The mirror itself is still there. It's just the glass that was stolen. Literally, just the glass, meaning they could do it from the outside. It really really seems like a simple fix, but I cannot seem to find anywhere that just sells the glass.

Start checking salvage yards...... I bet that GM wants you to buy the whole assembly....

Well, you coult try ebay like Tbbt suggested, or you could also look at car-part.com for a used one off a wrecked car...

    $118 here http://store.surplusgm.com/10-13-CTS...5_p_28877.html

I'm amazed that the glass can be removed without breaking the mount.

    Sorry to hear that.

I'm equally amazed that someone would steal a car mirror.

$350 sounds ridiculous. Maybe you could post up your dealer and/or salesperson's name so everybody on here will at least know how they're trying to screw you.

I paid 420 for the glass on an 04 SRX. Its a heated mirror, so its not just the same glass your bathroom mirror uses. Usually a backing, a film, perhaps gas or liquid! Then mirror glass

The mirror lists about $200, and adding primer-basecoat-clearcoat in the paint shop before taking the door apart to install makes me think the dealer is charging what dealers everywhere charge.

since their's no part number on just the glass, I was guessing the dealer wanted to replace the whole assembly. Did he?

Rock Auto has the glass for anywhere from $60-120 depending on flat or convex and whether you need the motor mount or not. Appears to be all GM part numbers.

Why not find the part number for the glass you need and give Chris at Rippy a call and see if it's something he can get.

Go to your local autoglass store, they can cut you a blank of flat mirrorglass and mount it with 3M tape for under $ 50. They will trace the mirror from the opposite door, and use it to cut the mirror for your missing piece. Simple.
