    30,000 mile service

We have a 2011 CTS. It was our understand that the service has been free. My husband called a few weeks ago and found out it the warranty runs another year. We were very pleased to here that. He made an appointment as he has done before to have it serviced. Yesterday he went in and they told him he needed his 30,000 mile service, and he would have to pay for it. He questioned them but they assured him that this 30,000 mile service was very necessary and it wasn't covered under the usual service aggrement that we had when we bought the car. Because we have done all our business with this dealership he assumed that that was right. Anyway the service cost over $1400.00. We are stunned. Is this an acceptable charge?

Did you request an estimate prior to the work being performed ?

No, that is not acceptable. You have a bumper to bumper for 4 years on a 2011. There are certain exclusions such as brakes, tires, but for any "maintenance" items it should not cost that much, if anything. You should talk to your dealer first and if they don't resolve it, contact Cadillac directly. Something doesn't sound right about the whole thing.

    Re: 30,000 mile service

the 30,000 mile service, yes, the price, hell no. In your owners manual you will find a time frame of maintenance items and services to do and when they re suggested to do so. The 4 yr 50k mile premium care maintenance only covers oil changes, filter changes, and tire rotations. all other maintenance related items are not. If the services you required were bc of a defect, then they would be covered under warranty, but if its from wear and tear from operating the vehicle, then the cost is on you.

You should of gotten the estimate before the services were done, rarely will they throw you a bill for 1k plus without approval. who knows, maybe you did agree do the pricing when the service guy was rambling on.

Please take and post a picture of the receipt you got that shows what was done and what wasnt. Call the dealer and ask for a discount. If that doesnt work, call your credit card company and have them dispute the charge and tell them that you didnt authorize that much in services, but had to pay to get your car back.

I'm stunned, just like you were. You have some good advice here. Follow up on it. And I, too, would like to see that invoice.

Unless something went really wrong, that service is ridiculously expensive.

My 30,000 mile service cost $97 - oil change, tire rotation and general checkup.

I am looking at the 2011 owners manual and I cannot find any reference to a 30,000 mile service, so they had have made that up.

While speculation is entertaining, it is essentially pointless until the OP responds to posts #2 & #3

Mine suggests to do coolant change at 30 and the usuall maintenance stuff for 2012. Then nothing has to really be done, besides oil changes, filters, and tires, until 100k.

    Re: 30,000 mile service

$1400 for the 30,000 mile service 2011 CTS sounds crazy, but we may be assuming facts not in evidence. First, the OP didn't say she and her husband bought the car new; it may be used, maybe even a salvage vehicle. Second, she mentions the "usual service aggrement that we had when we bought the car," which may be a third-party warranty, not the original GM warranty that comes with new cars. Third, she doesn't say this service was performed at a Cadillac dealer; it may have been done at the "delearship" (used car lot?) where they bought the car. Or maybe the $1400 included a new set of tires. Inquiring minds...
