even if your car is under warranty, post in this thread with (as far as you can remember) the repair history of your car
even little things that went wrong, or nagging problems that still haven't been fixed, post em.
if you got a maintenance repair bill, even better, post the amount (or what you can remember of it) here.
even if you did it DIY, mention it here as well as how much it cost you in parts to fix.
also include your year and mileage, as well as mileage when you bought the car, unless you bought it new
with any luck i can tally it up for average maintenance totals, and maybe get a more objective picture as to how reliable the cts really is
2012 CTS Premium AWD coupe. Purchased new in March 2012, currently has just over 20K miles
May 2012 (3,900 miles)
Problem: Seat belt warning light flashing even though buckled
Resolution: Seat belt buckle replaced
Comments: should have been a no brainer, but got jacked around by the dealership who kept saying that there was no problem because the car wasn't throwing codes. I had to continually remind them that I wasn't getting a diagnostic trouble code, but the car thought I wasn't buckled. I ultimately had to escalate to the General Manager. Issue was resolved.
March 2013 (14,000 miles)
Problem: Oil leak from the front engine cover
Resolution: remove front engine cover and replace gasket
Comments: I didn't even notice the leak, it was brought to my attention by the dealer when I went in for an oil change.
Only thing I really have as an issue is a slightly squeaky sunshade that I will bring up when I go in for my next oil change.
Radio replaced under warranty as if randomly kept turning on. 34,000 miles replaced under B2B warranty. No big deal but lost all music on HDD
Exhaust replaced from catalytic converter back, both sides, 37,000 miles, out of B2B warranty. Exhaust pipe seam failure. $1800, but Cadillac and dealer picked up the whole tab.
2010 AWD Wagon
Left tail light replaced under B2B warranty as the top was pulling away from the body. 19,000 miles
3rd brake light replaced under B2B warranty, some of the lights didn't light up any more. 22,000 miles
All in all my dealer has been responsive as well as the folks from Cadillac Customer Service on this forum. It's an inconvenience but so far so good. The dealership has good coffee and a nice waiting room. However I still don't like to visit it except for oil changes.
Not a fan of extended warranties but glad I got a GMPP major guard on the 09 and the 10 is Cadillac Certified
Just traded a 2008 CTS-4 Premium Sedan and it had 30,000 miles and it was built November 2007 and it was trouble-free and squeak-free and I only performed routine maintenance (at the dealership); I just took delivery of a 2013 CTS Coupe "Stealth Blue Special Edition" around ten days ago, and it's superb!
Well, just purchased 2010 CTS Performance with 27,500 miles. Bought it home and it had a knocking noise at start up (2 to 3 knocks and then disappeared). 2 days later, brought it to the dealer. Apparently it was a bearing. The entire engine was replaced under the B2B warranty along with the battery which had a short.
2008 CTS4 (took over lease at 30000km):
42000km
Problem: Sunroof wouldn't close without holding the button down
ResolutIon: Replace sunroof motor(s?) under warranty
2011 CTS4 (factory order to replace 2008 when lease expired):
8km
Problem: Slow leak in passenger rear tire
Resolution: Defective wheel, replaced under warranty
15000km
Problem: Squeaking drivers arm rest
Resolution: Found broken tab, replaced full assembly under warranty
Rough start with the 2011 having the slow leak right off the bat but it's been solid ever since. Never had an unscheduled visit with the 2008 (sunroof problem was an inconvenience at best).

P.S. You're on an internet forum: "Objective" probably isn't the best choice of words...
I've been posting on a website called TrueDelta at www.truedelta.com. This gentleman has basically been doing exactly what you are trying to do without costs of repairs. You might want to check it out for what it's worth. I post info on my CTS as well as my Audi. Maybe if everyone on this forum posted there as well we would get a greater cross section of car owners with worthwhile contributions.

I don't mean to undercut your efforts...just maybe trying to eliminate double effort.

yup, i'm aware of truedelta, i'm just doing something more informal for the hell of it.
nice thing about truedelta is that it doesnt let you browse car reliability info until you've submitted your own, so it guarantees everyone participates in some way, which is awesome
hrm, yes, well, i uh *cough* dont have one yet
but i've been poking around a great number of cars and the cts looks like a great candidate at the moment
i just noticed the reliability information was a somewhat lacking
of course once i get one i'm going to hack the hell out of it, stuff like finding easy permanent fixes to the sunroof drain issues
I have a 2008 that I picked up in 2011 with 30k miles on it. Now at ~55k.
Issues have been small - minor inconveniences really:
Problem: Rattle in overhead console in map light area
Solution: Broken clip found; replaced under warranty
Problem: Cargo net hooks in trunk would pop out
Solution: Replaced with revised clips under warranty
Problem: Would very intermittently experience the no radio / turn signal click-clack condition
Solution: Amp reprogrammed per TSB under warranty
Problem: Right rear passenger door lock would stick
Solution: Lock mechanism replaced under warranty
Let me just say I took care of all the above issues virtually immediately after buying the car. It was a lease return and I got the sense it was little stuff that the lessee just didn't bother taking care of since the car was going back anyway.
I do have a couple outstanding issues:
Problem: Small rattle in front passenger door under certain bass conditions (a.k.a. blasting BPM on XM)
- I'm out of b2b and am not paying a dealer to fix. Will probably have a friend who is a BMW tech take off the panel and isolate the rattle. Not high priority.
Problem: Sunroof freaks out on closing under various conditions (common issue on the '08s)
- Again, out of b2b. I do have Major Guard with a $50 deductible, but I'm sure it specifically excludes sunroofs. This is really just an inconvenience that I can live with.
Problem: Drivers seat creaks under certain conditions (specifically right turns)
- This one is harder to tackle if not under b2b. I already applied felt between the plastic and leather along the bottom of the seat, which quieted the seat down considerably...but made the light creak more noticeable. Someone mentioned a tsb about the seat frame...doubt I can get it covered under Major Guard so will just live with it, maybe try felt in other areas. I can live with it in the meantime as long as it doesn't get worse.
At about 50,000 miles my transmission failed three times within 2 months. Warranty work.
At the same time while they were driving my car after one of the transmission repairs they discovered the right rear spindle was defective and it was replaced under warranty.
Joe,
The only information you are going to get will be negative with your (kinda-survey). Of course that's what you are asking for, but you won't get enough data points for it to be meaningful in any way. As tinman reported, Truedelta does a great job and has a lot of data, making it much more real world.
On many auto forums, the vast number of members are helpful (this forum included) and that is the best way to find out how a given car performs. There are many, many threads here that have both negative and positive comments. You would be better served to sit down at your computer, with a 12 pack, and read to your heart's content. You will learn both the good and the bad aspects of the CTS, as well as which years have what problems. They aren't all the same in terms of reliability.
114,000 miles - Primary and one secondary timing chain were stretched. Dealership wanted $3100, independent shop wanted $1500, I did it myself for $600 in parts and several bloody knuckles.
Now I'm at 115,000 miles and P0430 is popping up every couple of weeks. I hooked up a dashdaq and the secondary O2 sensors don't seem to be following the primaries but every once in a while bank 2 (which side is bank 2 on these cars???) stutters a bit. I'll probably do an oxygen storage test soon but I suspect at least one cat is on the way out. Looks like the cats are around $350/each. Before I replace one though I really want to know WHY it went out. I don't have any sign of exhaust leak and car has never thrown a misfire code.
oh dear
the bad cat may be due to oil leaking into the exhaust, which seems to be a common thing
an oil catch can will prevent it from sludging the exhaust
I'm not experiencing any oil loss though. Nor do I get smoke out the tailpipes at WOT.
Also, wouldn't it affect both cats equally?
Thanks for the lead, if I unbolt a cat, would there be visible oil dripping from it?
