    Brake Pad Recommendations

Looking for pads for the front. I have Centrix rotors ordered. Hawk ceramic pads are $170.00. If they are worth the price in performance I would get them, although it seems a little high. Any other recommendations? I have the JE5 brakes. My wife does most of the driving so they have to be quiet and I have to clean the car so low dust would be desirable.

    Re: Brake Pad Recommendations

I hate ceramic pads and cant recommend them.

I would go Hawk HPS or Porterfield R4-S, the Porterfield is nice because you can get rears as well to keep your balance.

O.E.M. would seem the prudent choice.

Logical, I forget everyone does not want a race car.

What is the down side of ceramic? I am using HPS on my SVT focus and they have been great. I will check them out.

    Re: Brake Pad Recommendations

They do not brake good, plain and simple.

Go to the Hawk site and check it out, same as drilled rotors, they do not stop as well but they are marketed well and people buy them thinking its all good when a plain rotor and good pads will out stop the crap pads and ebay rotors all day long.

I use HP+ on my car now but have used HPS and Blue. I put Hawk ceramic on my A6 and it was just not good and they did not feel awesome and they gave up fast at lapping days. I went to R4-S (the Porterfield version of HPS) on my SRX because they made front and rear, they were awesome, I loved them and dust was not ever an issue nor was noise but my HPS never made a sound either.

    Re: Brake Pad Recommendations

I hated the Hawk HPS's I had on my 2000 Firebird depending on how cold it was I had to drive a few blocks or more to get them up to temperature to where they performed properly.

There are two different HPS compounds IIRC. One is not recommended for street use.

    Re: Brake Pad Recommendations

Since I am in Michigan, I need something that does not require much of a warm up. I would like to get something that "bites" harder, but that may require some brake dust. CTSCHICK: How did the EBC Reds perform for you?

I have the EBC redstuff on now, I'm in my third week of having them and they STILL squeal while braking. And the brake dust is horrible.

    Re: Brake Pad Recommendations

I have had OEM's for close to 80k now. I do not think there is anything wrong with them for everyday driving.
Now if one goes to a track that's a different story.

Her car was totaled before she had a chance to install them.
