Does #11340C special coverage adjustment cover every 2009 3.6L CTS?

Dealership is telling me I'm not included. I'm at 114k miles and got the dreaded P0008 today along with some rattle.

They want $2600 to change the chains. I regret not selling the car.

If my car is indeed not covered, any insight as to why?

Because your car got the "good chains" not the problem ones. Yeah it's a joke. They all are prone to it why aren't 04-06 cars covered? GM claims its not a problem. Pay to play. Sorry man.

the best way to see if you are covered is to run your VIN through the gm warranty system and if it is covered it will show up as a "Special Coverage" under the warranty section

if you want to PM me your VIN i can check for you
might as well PM me email address too so i can send you the PDF

Re: Does #11340C special coverage adjustment cover every 2009 3.6L CTS?

I can't figure out why they are only covering "certain" vehicles in each model year instead of a range of VINs
that implies that the problem is not universal to all of these engines

if you haven't asked customer care why you're not covered yet that would be just about the only place to go to get an answer
i can't promise you that the answer will be straight-forward or that you will like the answer but that's probably your only hope at an answer

    Hello Mustang Matt,

I apologize for any vehicle trouble you are experiencing with your timing chains. I understand how this can be frustrating to see other vehicles covered and yours not due to being VIN specific. If you provide me with your VIN, I can verify this for you. I can be contacted via private message so we can continue to interact and I can help answer any other questions.

    Sincerely,

    Laura M.

    Hello Laura,

I'm already working with corporate Cadillac. The dealership is going to officially diagnose it tomorrow and we're going to go from there. They seem to be considering the possibility of covering it depending on the circumstances they find on Saturday.

Chris, just wanted to express my appreciation for your willingness to check the VIN for my 09 CTS and verify coverage for the timing chain issue. Hopefully Cadillac has other employees like yourself that are interested in assisting their customers even if not gaining any direct benefit. Adds to customer loyalty and benefits everyone, customer and Dealers alike.

Re: Does #11340C special coverage adjustment cover every 2009 3.6L CTS?

I had the local cadillac dealership pull the valve covers and inspect the engine and it does look like worn timing chains.

If it needs adjusters too I'm looking at $3100.

The cadillac district rep is supposed to call me Monday. I really hope cadillac comes through. So much for the revised chains that aren't covered by the special coverage adjustment. All but the last two months I was driving about 90 miles round trip to work so I racked up the miles, otherwise I'd be under the 100,000 powertrain warranty.

Really bumming now. I've never heard of an engine that had timing chain issues through normal driving without loss of oil or something catastrophic.

I'm going to research how difficult the replacement is. I know I can buy the chain and tensioner set for about $400 or so. I can buy a junkyard motor for ~1500 with a warranty. Maybe that's easier than messing with the chains. Ha, maybe the junkyard motor would even have the chains still under warranty. (I kid!)

Re: Does #11340C special coverage adjustment cover every 2009 3.6L CTS?

timing chains can get worn out from low oil not just loss of oil

many of these engines have been run low on oil from owners not checking the oil level
we see many come in for oil changes and only have a 4 quarts or less (sometimes almost no oil) drain out
