Re: Does #11340C special coverage adjustment cover every 2009 3.6L CTS?

Looks like Napa sells all the parts individually.

PartsGeek has an entire 15 piece Cloyes kit for $365.

I want to make absolutely sure I don't buy whatever chain GM's French supplier is using. Does anyone know if the Napa and Cloyes parts are quality?

Are there any extra things I should replace while I'm in there? Waterpump?

I wonder how much time I have before it grenades. The light hasn't come back on since I cleared the code but I haven't driven it much either.

If you are taking the time to tear into her then replace whatever other parts are in the area. The work is getting there.

When you clear the code, it has to relearn the cam timing then when it picks up an out of spec variation, the code will return. Replace all three chains as well as all of the chain tension shoes, like tinman alluded to.

    3.9L V-8 used in Lincoln LS / Ford Thunderbird/ Jaguar /Land Rover
    Another "global" engine.

----------EDIT: add the GM 2.4L 4cyl used in the Equinox to the list

Considering that the new chains are a different pitch (size) than the old ones, I suspect the "bad batch from a supplier" excuse is a lie to cover an inherent design defect. That and "the parameters in the OLM need to be reprogrammed"
    Sounds like B.S. to me.

There's no way I'm paying $3100 to the dealership for the repair. I had to pay $130 just to get them to tell me what I already knew so I could even talk to corporate.

    Lessons learned here:
    1. Never buy a product that's powered by a GM 3.6L.
    2. If you own a product with a GM 3.6L, sell it before the warranty is up.
    3. Don't expect Cadillac to do the responsible thing and admit that their new supplier isn't any better than their last one.

Extremely disappointed in the way this played out. I'm going to fix it and go back to Ford.
    Have fun

Shouldn't of bought it if you can't afford to repair it. The 3.6 is well documented. A search would of avoided your problems.

I did research it before hand and was assured with the revised timing chain, if there are going to be any issues, it will happen under warranty.

    I'm a sucker.

I can afford it, but a fool and his money are easily parted. Not paying the Cadillac tax. $3100 is crazy talk.

    Parts are ordered.

Idk who assured you but the 3.6 even in the di variation and sidewinder forms have timing chain and oil consumption issues. It's unavoidable. It's like playing with a hot girl with herpies. Sure may be fun but not worth the risk...ever...

There is no Cadillac tax for this. Get a price quote for chains on an Acadia that will make the one caddy gave you look like the Chevy price.

He's blaming it on Cadillac and thinking they are overcharging. It's not a Cadillac failure it's a GM one and to lay the claim well ill just go to ford then is ludicrous. They have just as many wide spread problems that they won't own up to.

No one is arguing what you say here in your quote. My point that you missed here is he is not a happy camper about (1) the failure and (2) shelling out $3100 to have the stealership repair it. Perhaps you could be a little more understanding with someone else's plight instead of dumping on him.

Re: Does #11340C special coverage adjustment cover every 2009 3.6L CTS?

I called another local GM certified repair shop. They'll do it for $2100. Considering cancelling the parts. That's a pretty good chunk of change saved and I wouldn't have to worry about screwing up the install. Plus, if GM ever extends the special coverage, I can probably get the job refunded if I don't do it myself. Decisions decisions.

    Similar situation

I had the headgaskets fail 3 times in my 97 ETC

Did GM help no. Was I upset about the failure (not upset about GMs lack of support) sure. But I didn't come on pouting about it and lay the claim ill never buy GM again ill buy a Ford.

Nope I've owned 3 Cadillacs since then. All Northstar powered cars.

I sympathize with his situation but complaining about it won't get a single thing accomplished and vowing to never buy a Cadillac on a Cadillac forum to fellow Cadillac owners is completely useless.
