Wow, must have been all that brake fluid on your hands!

That is really odd. How many miles do you have on your CTS? Looks like some kind of resin/nylon material that is painted over?

I'm going to check mine out too, though I haven't done any brake work yet!!!!!!!!

Did my neighbors post some lies about that brake fluid spill? I thought I had washed my hands.

No, not brake fluid. It started very small and, though I use a "hand wash" car wash, they do use high pressure water during rinse. And suddenly, there it was.

If you look at the heavy orange peel in the paint surrounding the damaged area, I would hazard a guess that a spot repair was done and it was not prepared nor painted particularly well.

My '09 w/ 53k has the same issue. I just thought it was a common issue.

I agree, all the handles exhibit about the same orange peel as does most of the car. Typical GM paint job.

Black always shows it more anyway. I can see a difference in the paint from my 04 CTS to my 12 CTS. 12 seems 'softer' and has more orange peel. I'm assuming that since theyve gone away with the solvent based paint and switch to water based there'd be a difference. Either way, both black raven cars still look great

I also have a Black Raven 2010 Wagon with 30K miles. Between the leaves falling on it destroying the clear coat so it looks like a cheesy camouflage job showing where ever singe leaf, bird poop has landed. It is the worst paint job ever. The paint looks worse in 30K miles than my Volvo does in 150K miles parked in the same location. Buffing, etc, - nothing works. Now I have paint chipping at all the sharp edges.

Same issue with my 08 w/ 54k miles but only on the driver's door handle. My clear coat has held up "okay" but my friends and family say the factory must have skipped a few coats to save money

Keep her waxed. Best advice I can give.

As for the door handle, I grab mine more in the middle and don't "slide" my fingers or hand along the handle as it opens. I grab it and hold. I learned on another car what happened on yours, so I modified my grip.

I usually only wax once a year but am thinking of increasing it to twice a year...

I will try to open my door that way from now on.

    Re: What the @#$%

Here in Florida that hot sun beats down hard on our cars. I have a garage, but it's at home and not at work. I would park under a tree, but since I have a sunroof I don't want to plug up my roof drains. Therefore I wax my car three times a year.
