Couple of factors influenced my decision and someone with the same set of factors may have decided differently. Liked the idea of a smaller car which the ATS is. When I got in the 2013 CTS, it looked exactly the same as the 2008 CTS I was trading in and felt that might blunt the excitement one feels when getting new car. The technology in the 2013 CTS was 5 years old already (with the new 2014 CTS) coming out and my son would never forgive me if I got a car that didn't have new technology. Plus my wife wanted the IPAD.

I had a few second thoughts whether I made the correct decision, but here 5 months later, I know I made the right one.

    ----------

I saw that the 2014 CTS will start at around 45k-probably 6k more than the lowest price 2013 CTS.

    ----------

I am sure another CTS would have been more age appropriate with me being almost 67 (Cadiilac is targeting people in their 30's for the ATS). But the overriding factor again was that the car looked exactly the same inside (except for the back up camera in the rear view mirror) as my 2008 CTS trade-in. And even at my age, you like to get a little excited about buy a new car and a car that looked the same didn't do that for me.
Now I understand... I was thinking along the same lines when I started looking @ Cadillac, except I wasn't trading in the same model (or anything for that mater). I gave the youngest son our 2010 Equinox (age 30, Air Force w/our two grandkids) so I was down to just the wife's car (& my '59 Corvette) so I wanted something sporty yet still 'Cadillac' nice & when I saw the CTS Coupe I knew that was it. Being summer, I could have drove the '59 for a while until the 2014 CTS's came out (I almost went for a XTS) but knowing the 2013 were priced right & this could be the last of the coupes, the hunt was on for the right one. I think I got a good piece w/over $8k off sticker, I wanted a black one & there wasn't to many of them around (tons of silver ones). I ran the risk of not getting my color if I had waited, as it was this one was @ a dealership in the next state, but THEY made the 5-hr delivery trip @ no extra cost (so to me it was a no brainer). I've only had it for less than a month but I'm already getting 25mpg so that's a nice surprise. And with only 600 miles on the odometer so far, that may get even better??? (BTW; I turn age 60 on Tuesday)

I know you will happy with your CTS-it was the best and most reliable car I ever owned.

    ----------

    http://media.gm.com/content/dam/Medi...-June-2013.pdf

CTS deliveries down more than 40% over last year. That combined with the new model coming out next year is the reason the discounts on the 2013 are so high. My dealership is currently having a sale on the remianing 2012 CTS if you can believe that.

I'm not trying to offend anyone, just trying to understand why you would pay $700 extra for a ATS over a CTS (maybe it's just me?). I guess (as they say) that's why we have vanilla & chocolate Ice Cream.
True that the ATS is the entry level model, but it has the advantage of getting all the latest updates. CUE, new lighter chassis that the next CTS will be built off of, better interior materials, etc.

Having said all that, in my opinion there are few cars out there that turn heads like the CTS coupe.

The ATS does come with the 3.6L and with that engine it is much faster than any CTS except for the V. There are other features like the ventilated seats that aren't offered in the ATS.

I didn't realize the ATS could be had with the 3.6, I thought you could only get the 4cyl.

3.6 can only get an automatic. Others can option a manual. Makes no sense. Bring on a V, or at a minimum a V-Series. Oops, make that a V-Sport. Whatever.

No scuttlebutt anywhere that I have heard about. I want another wagon somewhere down the road. Doesn't look like Cadillac will keep me.

All the SUV's out there pretty much doomed the life of any wagon I'm afraid... in the US anyway.

If that cammo'd ATS I saw is to become reality, I saw it again over the July 4th weekend, at the same location. Weird. I did take note, it was an ATS 2 door. Now lets see if that hits showroom floors.

2011 was the first year for the CTS coupe.

And I though I was a car guy... I didn't even know that 2011 was the 1st year for the coupes. Now if you want to talk Corvette, I'm ready(lol). So a 3-year run should help my value down the road. How about AWD issues (or even other issues for that matter)?

Don't know of any known AWD issues.

As for being a car guy, my wife calls me the rain man of cars, although the tidbit of 2011 being the first model year of the CTS is minor league stuff.

It's not that I'm new to Cadillac (I had a few years ago) but as a retired Chrysler/UAW employee & BIG Corvette nut, I just hadn't kept up with them. BUT, now I'm back & loving my new Coupe. Thanks for the AWD information (with no news being good news), it sounds like clear sailing for at least for the next 4-years/50K miles.
