Anyone else having problems with their 3.0L CTS?

I bought my wife a new CTS 3.0 Luxury AWD in 2010 and the car has been great up until these last few months (always at the dealer). The car is still under warranty, however, I'm definitely getting the feeling these cars are built to last to a mileage point and that's it. In the last few months the transmission cooling hose to radiator was leaking, head light assembly was leaking (moisture), and now my wife just called me saying she is stranded on the side of the highway with an overheat warning flashing on the dash. Naturally, I went over to where she is stranded to check it out and found there is coolant all over the place. All the coolant lines appear to be in good shape so I'm thinking radiator or over fill tank? To be honest, I didn't really troubleshoot to much as it was pouring outside. I pretty much told her wait for a tow truck and get it to the dealer. Is anyone else having issues like this with their car? We took delivery of the car 2 years and 10 months ago and it has 42k miles on it. A little shocked to say the least! I'm a huge car nut (restore older Porsches) and definitely know my way under the hood and I'm a little worried that the car may have over heated. We all know how overheating an aluminum engine ends up. Basically, now I'm concerned about the head gaskets. Are these covered under the 100k powertrain warranty? At this point our Cadillac ownership has been disappointing to say the least. Just curious if we are the only only ones having these problems?

It seems like you may be one of few who got a bad car. It does happen, even to Porsche. I would wait for a response from one of the Cadillac reps here (they will read this thread eventually) and I'm sure once they respond you will be taken care of to the best of their ability. I'm sorry to hear about your sour Cadillac experience so far and I hope your grief is ameliorated expeditiously

Your car is still in the B2B warranty (4 years/50K miles), then take it to the dealer to get fixed. It would include the free tow too.

    Good Luck, Marv

Although my 2011 3.0 sedan only has 16K on it in two years I have had no issues. My passenger side headlight appears to have a slight seal issue but not to the point of taking it in yet (I think that this is a common issue). I ordered my first new Cadillac in 1977 and have never had a "bad" one over the years. It sounds like your issues should be covered under warranty but that doesn't cover the inconvience issue. Let us know what happens.

I know it is hindsight, but there is a number in the owner's manual to call for Cadillac Roadside Assistance. While it wasn't worth a damn for me (and I am still waiting for a follow up from them) it is worth calling them. That way they can take care of your issue on their nickel all the way from the tow to when you drive out the service bay door. Usually they send a Certified Cadillac Roadside Technician (although they didn't for me) to determine the extent of the damage (yep, there's coolant all over the road).

It sounds as if your may have "one of those cars" unfortunately. Might be time to trade her in (the car, not the wife). Really sorry to hear that. I am a little disappointed in Cadillac as well.

Re: Anyone else having problems with their 3.0L CTS?

I appreciate the responses. I'm fully aware the car is still under warranty and Cadillac even paid for the tow. The reason for my post is to determine if we are the only ones having these issues! Seems odd the cooling system would fail at such a low mileage point. If others are having the same problem that tells me GM is probably having supplier issues. So far Cadillac service has been really good (loaner car and even paid for tow). It's just getting stranded and having to drop the car off all the time is interrupting our schedule. We have always had Japanese vehicles in the past (Infiniti) so we were hardly, if ever in for warranty so this is new for us.

Update: The radiator had a hole in the metal core. My only concern is the head gaskets now. He didn't know right off the top of his head if the head gaskets were covered under the 100k powertrain warranty but would have the answer by the time we pick it up. Does anyone on here know if they are covered under the 100k powertrain warranty?

    Hi Laura,

    I sent you a message.

Anyone else have a radiator failure? Just curious how many of them are out there.

Never had a radiator issue on my 08. I don't believe it is common for these cars.
