Wow. Youre all right, I am in good hands! I can't thank everyone enough. So helpful. I haven't had a chance to drive one yet. As a substitute, I took a sedan for a spin. Very smooth... but not the sporty feel I was hoping for. Safe to assume the coupe has more of a sporty feel? What does the cockpit sit like? Are the door sils higher than they are in the sedan? Does it feel like you're sitting lower? The othee thinf I was bummed about In the sedan was the lack of steering feel. Any thoughts on that? Is it communicative? Road feel? Or is there too much assistance? Lastly - can I squeeze the clubs in the trunk? Again thank you so much to everyone for your opinions and help. I truly am in good hands here.

As long as you have the 3.6 engine which you do, you should be happy.

The clubs will only fit if you put down the back seats.

The coupe sits lower than the sedan.

Also depends on what sedan you drove. If you drive the base sedan it has the 3.0L engine (270hp), 17" wheels and it has the softer FE1 suspension.

The coupe comes standard with the 3.6L (318hp) engine, 18" wheels and the firmer FE2 suspension.

If you are staying with a RWD model you can opt for the sport package with the 19" wheels and track tuned FE3 suspension. This option is not available on AWD models.

As for steering feel, it does tend to feel a tad overboosted at slow speeds but it does firm up the faster you go.

The coupe I'm looking at has the premium package with the 19s. Any help or advice from the community? Pros? Cons? Problems? Thanks so much for your help everyone!

From what I remember. The coupe's roofline is 2 inches lower and the windshield is 2degrees back. Also the seats are lower giving you a "cockpit" like feel. my friends and i love every part of it. My best friend almost got the same car in white but didn't want to spend the $$. I test drive a sedan before the coupe was out. Even though it had all the same options the couple felt so much better specially with where all the controls are when your driving with the lower seat.

Also I have had golf clubs fit in the trunk. The have to be out in club first into the deep corner and then slid the back in into the opposite corner so they are diagonal. :-P obviously bag will make a difference but mine is not a small bag at all.

Re: Should I buy a 2011 CTS coupe?

Have not driven the sedan so no help in comparison. The Coupe does have a sporty feel to me but less than my previous fun car, a 350Z. But much more room and features; nicest interior I've ever owned. Cockpit is perfect for my 6'2", 210 lb frame. Lots of seating positions and loads of leg room; I can stretch my legs out straight with seat all the way back. The steering is not quite as tight as Z but fine; steering becomes more firm with higher speed. Yes on golf clubs with rear seat down (easy to lower).

You might see how you feel about seats; they are to hard for me but fine with a car cushion. Only an issue on drives over an hour or so.

Keep in mind my perspective is the Coupe is a fun second car for cruising on road trips and running through the gears in the twisties. If I need to haul more than my girl & me, I use our SUV.

Laura, no. Just trying to get another potential buyer to jump off that fence.

Post 13 is exactly right about the "rear" seats. This car is basically a 2 seater. Other than that it's one of the best looking cars on the road for the price. Over 36K on mine with NO problems. I've lowered mine, put V wheels and tires on it, blacked it out, tinted the tails, windows and added a rear spoiler. I luv this car and so do most people who see it. Get one.

Re: Should I buy a 2011 CTS coupe?

One "con" you may want to consider. I've had a few nice attractive cars through the years, one sort of "exotic" type, but I've never been waved at, thumbs up, horns honked, stopped at lights and parking lots etc., so many times by people wanting to know more about the car, or just tell me how wicked, sweet, on so on, it is. I don't derive my self-worth from material possessions, but I must admit it's a nice feeling after being "stealth" the last few years mainly driving an inherited Buick. You definitely will not be flying under the radar in a black CTS coupe. Speaking of radars, you might consider a high end model Escort detector if you have a heavy foot. I was tailed at least twice on road trips last week and locked on by laser and Ka band at least four times. If GM really does discontinue the CTS coupe, the best seller in the segment, they're absolutely crazy and the entire management team and BOD should be fired on the spot.

Give special attention to the seats and make sure you're comfortable in them. Drive the car a couple times and make sure you're happy with them. Some people found them uncomfortable and some no problem. You can search this forum for the threads on the subject but the bottom line is that you should spend a good amount of time concentrating on the seats. I hope you get the car and have good luck. I'm very happy with mine.

Re: Should I buy a 2011 CTS coupe?

Hey Gohawks - thanks a mil for the color on the suspensions. I drove a 12 sedan, and I honestly don't know if it had something other than the FE1, but I'd be surprised if it did. However, I'd guess even if they had an FE1 in the coupe, that given the cars stance, it's probably a bit better? As I understand it, the one I'm looking at (far, far out of my geographic region so viewing in person isn't a possibility), has the FE3, but I think I'll be happy with it no matter what.

I can't seem to get the guy selling it to get me any pictures (I will before I buy - long story on the car - the guy is in the military and his fam is selling it for him), but I really want those 19 inch wheels. Anyone added them as an after market feature? What about the V wheels? Expensive?

To the latest post - Seats are hugely important to me. My first car was a G35 coupe, and the bolsters were great. The Audi S4 after that had recarros, and they were very firm, but supportive. The IS350 were incredibly soft and comfortable, but very little support. I just want some middle ground out of the CTS coupe, but the seat portion of the seat (if that makes sense) sure looks flat, and certainly was in the sedan. I'm hoping the suspension will help make up for the lack of seat support into corners. I didn't find the sedan seating particularly comfortable - but then again, I just came from a 350 - probably the most comfortable seats ever (but again, little support).

From my research, it sounds like I'll be sacrificing some power (the 350 was just one tenth slower to sixty than the S4) for some handling - which I'm okay with. How does the group feel about power? Pretty mid/back of pack where compared with it's peers. Excluding comparison - is it adequate? I know going toe to toe off the line with a 335i isn't going to get me the win to 60 or the quarter, but does it still feel decent at least? Any element at all of push you into the seat acceleration? Any non warranty voiding upgrades to give me a few more horseys?? I don't want to be up against an Accord V6 and lose (I know I'm sounding like a track nut - and I'm the furthest thing from it). I don't buy cars for attention or looks, I want a specific feel to the car, if that makes sense. The styling with the coupe is unbelievably attractive, but since I'm not in the game to be told how nice the car looks, I want to know that it doesn't feel like molases.

THANK YOU to everyone on this chain. Awesome, incredibly helpful input. So glad I found the forum.

As one who test drove many of the coupe's true competitors (cars in the CTS price range or less), let me offer what I can regarding performance.

I believe you'll enjoy it very much but it's no supercar. Here's what I drove and my performance comparison for each. The Merc C250: slow, and not close in performance. Merc C350: Equivalent to or slightly faster. The BMW 328i: slower but close; the Bmw 335i: definitely faster. The Infiniti G37: a little faster. The Audi A5: a little slower but best gas mileage. The Accord V6: actually pretty close, but you'll edge it out. Hyundai Genesis coupe: 2013+ with V6 Track version is comparable to the 335i in performance and way cheaper in price. Also, drove a V6 Camaro, and felt the CTS to be faster but that could just be me. The V6 Challenger is a little slower. So, with the exception of the Hyundai, you'll be able to keep with most, that is unless you want to spend an extra 10 grand. I'm sure you can't get a 335i as loaded as the CTS for less than that price difference.
