    Afraid to upgrade my '05

I'm looking for general thoughts on the second generation CTS. I have an '05 that has been plagued with major issues such as 2 major rear end repairs before an entire differential replacement and excessive oil consumption. It's just a matter of time before it will need a major engine repair and with less than 70k miles this just seems unacceptable. I love Cadillac style and performance but don't know if I want to go through this again. Has the second gen. changed enough? What has or will Cadillac do to retain CTS customers?

Although many have had lots of issues with the 08/09 MY, I'm very happy with my 08 Premium CTS4. I suggest you look for a 2011 and up if you're a cautious buyer although there's a bad egg in every dozen or two for all MY IMO. (for the most part)

Oh and yes, the second gen CTS is nothing like the first gen! I wasn't interested in the first but truly fell in love with the second gen!!!

ive got an 04 cts and a 2012 cts. never any issues with either. 04 3.6 has 160k miles on it and the 2012 is pushing 30k. would buy them both again in a heartbeat.

Love mine ('12 coupe). A minor issue with a seatbelt buckle that ws more aggravating by how the dealership handled it, but otherwise great.

Love mine, but on a second trans rebuild, 100 miles after the first rebuild. But I do like my car. Undecided on keeping it, honestly, as it is in the shop at this very moment.

I love both of mine. I am extremely hard on the dealership I have been using which reflects poorly for the brand. Several minor warranty issues and a unusual exhaust pipe failure that I'm waiting to hear how much of the repair I will have to pay. But then again they are trying. But I really like em both, a thunder grey 09 premium awd sedan and a white diamond tricoat10 awd performance wagon. One may have to go because my wife hates them. Cadillac old people stigma still sticks with her which is too bad. If I had to choose one it would be the wagon!

Yes, but the payments that go along with my suggestion get pretty expensive for that model.

I had a black 2010 cts 4dr and now have a white 2012 coupe. Loved/love them both. What I've noticed is the white shows the lines but the black you can really bling especially with the polished rims.

Re: Afraid to upgrade my '05

I've had no problems with my 2008 or my 2011 CTS 3.6. Although there are plenty of problems reported here, some very serious and frustrating, you have to remember that these are simply manmade mechanical gadgets, not creations of the gods -- no year and model of any car ever made has been trouble-free, and if you were to look at bulletin boards for owners of those cars you would see rants similar to what you read here.

The problems need to be viewed in perspective and not as proof that all similar cars have suffer the same faults. The best way to do that is to review reliability statistics gathered by trustworthy sources, such as Consumer Reports, Edmunds, and J.D. Power & Associates. According to those sources, data from hundreds or thousands of owners indicate that the Cadillac CTS is quite reliable with few if any significant problems. Google automotive reliability ratings.
