So I was able to get the first layer of fiberglass applied, using resin and fiberglass cloth. It came out pretty good, now I just need to reinforce it with fiberglass mat. I took some pictures but when I try to post them I get a message saying that I have reached my quota

Heck of a project you have there. Impressive. Can't wait for finished pics as well as how you accomplish the wiring. I will stay tuned.

Amazing! To my knowledge the radio unit is the large 3*5*8 in box deep in the dash, the silverbox unit. The cd even slides into it. The front panel audio buttons vary ever so slightly between nav and npn-navcars. The nav, dest and audio buttons at least. The amplifier and speaker wires are I believe located elsewhere. Lot of modules on rear window deck. I can check my helms and get back to you on where the amp is, and speaker connections. Good luck on your trailblazing project!

Re: 2011 CTS Double din retro fit

Just checked my service manual. The radio amplifier is located in the trunk. On the left side behind the vanity panel, behind the taillight. Looks large 12 inch?. There are tow different amps depending on which stereo system you have. (UQA and UQS). The connector plugs are different too. Last time I messed with a factory BOSE system, I had a difficult time adding aftermarket components.

I am aware that the silver box unit (radio) in the dash contains the NAV software (minus the screen) and communicates with the onstar/bluetooth module (on rear window shelf) all of which run thru the speakers. Cutting out the origianl silverbox would kill all the system integration. With a second ?? headunit is there someway you could just tap into the speaker feedwires in the trunk and avoid all those interface issues??

    ----------

So to tie it in to the factory system maybe you cold use the on-dash NAV button to switch which headunit runs power to the speakers.

Or use some electronic switches (transitors?) on the speaker wires in the trunk and connect both systems there. A home made black box should allow you to send sound to the speakers depending on which incoming signal has power (??) Someone with more electronic skills than I should be able to do this.

Thanks for the insight leigh. I have been going back and forth on the wiring dillema, but I have finally came to a conclusion. Im eventually going to run all new amps and speakers, and plan to hang on to all the factory speakers, so if I ever decide to trade her in, I'll be able to take her back to stock with out a trace of the aftermarket setup with no headaches. So the way I plan on intergrating the pioneer HU in with the OEM setup "is so easy a caveman can do it".. So to power the headunit I am going to tap into the brown accessory wire located on the body control module, wich is located behind the lower dash, above the gas pedal. There are also four orange power cables located in the same area, I will tap in right there for the constant, than ground the headunit at the chassis, than to get the audio from the pioneer HU to the speakers, I'm simply gonna run RCA's from the front channel, into the factory aux-in located in the center storage console. Simple as that. So if all goes as planned, I should retain all functionality of the entire oem system (minus the stereo knobs, analog clock and display) with a fully intergrated aftermarket headunit, Hope it works. What do you guys think?

    ----------

By the way, I've gotten a little more fiberglassing and body work done on the center stack bezel. Its still a little rough, but is shaping up nicely, I'll post pics later on tonight, hopefully powered up.
