2013 CTS4 Coupe AWD awful gas mileage

So I just recently got the 2013 coupe w AWD and the 3.6 and I am getting awful gas mileage. I have 1500 miles which i know is barely broken in but I am averaging 14.5 mpg and I am not a heavy foot driver. Any feedback on this?? Also what is better for gas mileage, regular mode or sport mode transmission?

Regular mode, and easy acceleration. Glide toward stops, don't stay on the gas and then brake hard. Milk those mpg's.

Do you have a lot of stop-and-go traffic? Your mileage is not good. Might be the newness of the engine, your traffic conditions and your driving habits all contribute to the bad mpg.

    Welcome aboard.

I drive very old lady like. Very cautious of getting aggressive on the new motor. All city driving in the suburbs mostly 35-50 mph.

Stop and go at medium speeds is the worst case for getting good mileage.

2013 CTS AWD 3.0 sedan after 1900 miles , 90% highway, getting 17 mpg. Something is wrong with these cars. It's rated combined at 21mpg Even city mpg is rated at 18. I have been driving for over 20 years in all manner of cars, suv, minivan. please don't tell me it is the way i drive. all of my previous cars have gotten near the rated mpg. I have had 10 over the last 12 years.

I just read an article in The Wall St. Journal yesterday how the EPA Rated mileage is somewhat of a joke (my wording). It just isn't "real world" driving. Sure, I can get my highway rated mileage easy. I just need to set it on cruise control at 55 mph on the interstate. Like that ever happens!

I don't know what to say to you guys who have bad mileage.

if ALL the cars had bad mileage like us then that would be one thing. But a lot of you guys are getting great mpg. So either my foot is planted to the floor while driving in 2nd gear or there is something wrong with our cars.

I average about 21 mpg in mixed, mostly rural (read: very little stop and go) driving.

Actually not in Detroit, but a suburb about 40 miles out of there.

I average 17 MPG city on a 2010 AWD 3.6 with 22K miles and have gotten as high as 30 MPG on the highway. With AWD it probably takes some miles to break in. I wouldn't worry about it. Also, I believe winter blends of fuel decrease mileage.

Its just nuts to think that a 3.6 is that bad on gas. My 3.8 Monte Carlo SS got 20+ city and 30ish highway easily. My dads vette gets much better gas mileage and its a 98 w the 5.7 LS1 in it. I just think its nuts.

I should have gotten the damn RWD version.

Re: 2013 CTS4 Coupe AWD awful gas mileage

It's the AWD that really kills the gas mileage. Especially in stop and go driving. My 2006 Acura RL (SH-AWD) wasn't much better. In around town driving I would get 18-20 mpg. In mixed driving I would get 21 or 22. On straight highway driving I once got around 27-28 mpg.

Still better than 14-15. I dont think that 14-15 is acceptable by any means.

I would give the engine a chance to break-in. Also, not sure where you live, but the winter time is the worst for gas mileage.
