Re: New 2013 NAV Disc Update - no problems/newer maps

I just loaded a new NAV disc to my 2008 CTS. It did take about 3 hours. How do I know if it all downloaded correctly?
What will I see different from before? If my system crashes, I guess I can I keep the disk and download it again?

You should be able to easily tell. No magic involved.

The fact it took almost 3 hours says its done - no error msgs and telling you to remove disc tells you you are done. Check CONFIG to confirm V5 application level and map of 3/28/12. Nothing to download its on the disk you just installed. Depending on what level you were at will determine if you see anything new at all other than a new map.

This is a old 2010 Navigation screen. What does new one look alike? Love to see

I'm sure it looks the same.
They probably corrected spelling mistakes like every year and call it an update.

I would be very surprised if they change the look. I am sure only maps data was updated. Maybe some improvement in route engine....

They add a few roads. Hell, on the last update they didn't even have I-4 through Orlando - Mickey Mouse Town, fer chrissakes - they didn't even have I-4 correctly labeled. Talk about confusion for tourists!

I think I paid $110 for a lifetime 4 updates a year for my Garmin that has a better system than the car. That would be a good program for us.
    GR8RYD and GR8RYD like this.

I paid $69.95 for Garmin updates a yea or two ago. Since then I updated maps probably 6 times already, every 3 months.

And you are right, the lates Garmin Nuvi as head and shoulder above the CTS one! For $380 you get 5" screen, fantastic graphic, much quicker unit, lifetime maps and traffic update. But than again what you aremissing is a nice integration with the car Though it is not always a benefit...

I've decided to pay $100 per year for updates (I buy it every other year)

Heck according to map dates, you don't get a full year of updated data anyway, may as well update every 2 years minimum!

I will wait for the next one and pass on this update. I feel the pain still from my last update.
