Bought a car with different size of tires.- 2010 CTS

    Hi.

I bought a brand new 2010 Cadillac CTS AWD Performance collection on July 2011.
I just found out that my car has a different size of tires from right and left.
Brogan Cadillac in Totowa, NJ sold me a car that have differenct side of tires.
My car is only 6000 miles and i noticed that when i went to get an oil change from other dealer.
Here's size of tires of Cadillac.

    Left - P235/50R18 97V (front)
    P235/50R18 (rear)
    Right - P265/45R18 (Front)
    P265/445R18 (Rear)

What 's the danger of using different size of tire like above?
I know it's not good to have mismatch tire on a car.
    Please advice~~~~

Well it'll wreak havoc on your spider gears. Those are the gears in your differentials that allow for different speeds while cornering from side to side

At some point, some idiot rotated your tires. Those are the sizes that are supposed to be on your car. But the 235s should be on the front, the 265s should be on the rear...

    ----------

Make sure that when you get the tires in the correct place that no one tries to rotate them again. Dealers mess this up all the time with the Vs...

Bring it back to Brogan and tell them that you car has staggered tire sizes and to do as 'Jim' stated; put the 235's on the front and the 265's on the rear.

Glara, I'm in agreement with C&C -- bringing this concern to your dealership's attention is your best next step. If you continue to have concerns after taking your CTS back to them, please email me anytime at Katie_Lucille@gmexpert.com and I can contact your dealer on your behalf.

    Best,

Actually, the rolling diameters of both sizes are practically identical. So spider gears should be fine.

I r confused. Did any of the cTSs come with staggered tires? Other than the coupe and Vs, of course.

I believe the tire sizes on the 2010 sedan are same front and rear. Maybe the wheels at some point were swapped with a coupe. I also think the wheel with for the rears on a coupe are different. Also there may be a variation in offset.

As I said before I don't know about AWD. Is there any difference between models?

Re: Bought a car with different size of tires.- 2010 CTS

Tire Rack lists those tires as the original sizes for the CTS Coupe, with the wider tires in the back. As someone pointed out, they are essentially the same diameter so they won't cause any trouble with your drivetrain or traction control. But with different width on each side, the car might feel a little different cornering hard to the left or to the right, or it might pull slightly to one side or the other when driving straight.

The coupe has wider rear fenders, so the wide tires might rub the inside of your fenders when you are cornering or going through dips. And there is less room for tire chains. You should at least get the dealer to swap the right front and left rear tires to get the big tires on the back and the small tires on the front.

You can also have someone read the codes on the build card that is on the bottom of your spare tire cover to see what the factory had in mind when they built the car, and decide what to do based on that. They either intended staggered tires, in which case you should just relocate the tires as above, or they intended matching tires, in which case you might want to insist on replacement of the wrong-sized tires (and wheels if applicable) with what is supposed to be on the car.

If you stick with these wheels and tires, when you buy new tires, you should measure the width of all of your wheels to make sure that the wheels at each end of the car are the same width.

The staggered tire size dials in some under-steer into the vehicles performance which may be applicable to the characteristics of the coupe and not the sedan.
